Today we’d like to introduce you to Keyshon Hood.
Keyshon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always wanted to be famous. Growing up, I always knew I would be somebody BIG. My passion is music. I feel like I’m a jack of all trades. The comedy thing is just natural. People just love me for being me. I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama in a tough neighborhood where it’s rare that you beat the odds. It’s rare that you go viral or that your city supports you. I’ve been working and pushing hard with music all my life but me being me is why I’m noticed. The music is a bonus. People love me for just naturally being funny. I started off rapping, posting videos, going viral and having people come up to me telling me they knew my music and hoped I made it was the best feeling.
But the music became pricey. I couldn’t be consistent because of my financial situation so I fell off but I never stopped being myself. I always post videos and pictures, just simply being myself. It goes more viral than my music at times. Right now, I’m using my personality to get noticed. I know for a fact I’m going to come back to the music. I just want to put myself in a position to take care of my family. I’ve been posted by the shade room twice. It was a good feeling because they wrote me asking to post me. I didn’t have to write to them at those times. The name TrapMedian basically describes how I came up. I came up in the trap. I had to get it out of the mud. I had to hustle for every dime. I still do. I’m just a natural-born hustler; I get everything out of the mud. That’s where TRAP came in. But the MEDIAN part, of course, stems from the word “comedian” I don’t consider myself a comedian. But I know I’m funny so I just ran with it. That’s how I came up with the name TrapMedian. I have a clothing line dropping soon.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
No. I’ve been broke before and had to make money in the quickest ways. I’ve had people tell me to just give up because the success part is taking too long. I’ve had people tell me my clothing line wouldn’t pop. The most recent struggle is that a few days ago, I got Into a car accident. My ex grabbed my wheel and tossed up off of a freeway. And I can’t walk right now but I’m still determined to finish everything I’m starting. I’m trying to think of any content I can drop, including these crutches.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
TrapMedian is apart of me. It’s basically me all in one. I feel like I specialize in being myself. I’m a natural funny hustler. I take my music more seriously so that’s what I’m most proud of. I’m different from others because I don’t let anything stop me. I don’t know anybody who acts, looks dresses or thinks like me. I’m not saying I’m better than anybody but I’m different. God was in the lab for 200 days and hours, building me.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Right now, I’ll feel successful when I get all my blue check marks on every site. I’m looking to get noticed by people who already have them.
