Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyrisa Burdine.
Tyrisa, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I moved to Georgia from Tennessee on September 29th, 2016. My goal was to get started at a well-known salon, build my clientele and eventually start my own! I did just that, I worked at a salon for two years until I was comfortable enough to stand on my own. Sept 2018 is when I open my salon suite and become Tamed by Ty. I love being able to make my own schedule and move around as I please.
My passion is natural hair and I love how you can transform it into many different forms. I started getting so many questions about how to grow my edges back and what can I do to help my hair from being so dry. I began researching natural products and herbs that help with those things. I played around with formulas and herbs until I got it to my liking. I used it on the client’s hair and received great reviews so I decided to take my products more series and put them out for the world and that’s when my hair products took off!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My journey has definitely been rewarding. I take every opposition that I encountered and turned it into a lesson learned. Being a business owner is definitely a full-time job. You will lose a lot of things, friends, relationships, money, time, energy, special events and sleep.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Tamed By Ty story. Tell us more about the business.
Tamed By Ty is a salon and product brand that focuses mainly on natural hair and natural hair products. I believe the best way for anything to flourish is in its natural form. Tamed By Ty is known for protective styles, silk press, twist outs, big chops and my stimulation oil!
I’m most proud of my stimulation oil! That’s my hair oil that promotes hair growth, prevents dandruff and dry hair. The best feeling are returning purchases and great reviews. I don’t just want a product I want a product that people can’t go without! What’s sets me apart from others is standing away from the crowd. I go against the waves. I never ride the wave!
