Meet Columbia Williams of A Helping Hand Doula Services in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Columbia Williams.

Columbia, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My journey began in 2014, after watching the documentary, The Business of Being Born. I was shocked at how medical and sterile birth had become and how unfairly some pregnant people are treated. From there, I spent the next few years devouring anything and everything related to birth. I attended my first birth as a doula in 2017 when my goddaughter was born, and I fell in love with doula work.

In early 2019 I found out I was pregnant with my first child. My pregnancy was one of the most enjoyable times of my life. I gave birth naturally in a hospital transfer from Atlanta Birth Center at Atlanta Medical Center in November of that year. Giving birth solidified my passion for other people to have the experience I was blessed with.

Since the beginning of this year, I have been serving the birth community as a full-spectrum doula. I offer holistic doula services to birthing people in all situations. I serve the metro Atlanta area, including home births, Atlanta Birth Center, and Atlanta-area hospitals.

Has it been a smooth road?
Starting a business during a global pandemic is not an easy task. Many hospitals stopped allowing birth attendants. Although many have lifted their restrictions, it has made it hard to get clients at times.

Please tell us about A Helping Hand Doula Services.
I offer full-spectrum holistic doula services to all birthing people in all situations. The outcome could be birth, it could be abortion, it could be surrogacy or adoption. My goal is to offer you the support and encouragement you need as you embark your experience.

My services include birth and postpartum doula care, birth photography, and meal prep for new parents. My goal is to nurture the body, mind, and spirit and help foster a positive and healthy space for my client to thrive in.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love the energy and diversity of Atlanta. I have watched it grow and change so much in the 11 years that I’ve been here. I know I’m not alone in saying that I hate the traffic.
