Meet Tyler Jordan of Slayed By Jordan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyler Jordan.

Hi Tyler, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
As a young child, hair was always fascinating to me. I couldn’t keep my hands out of it. As I grew older, I realized that I really loved hair and that I could possibly make it a career. Let’s take it back to 2014. Freshman year of high school, I tried a sew-in extension style on one of my classmates. She loved it! We took pictures of the style and I posted it on social media. It blew up locally! That’s when I started taking clients at my mom’s house. Doing extension services for as little as $25. I didn’t mind because the passion for it exceeded how much I was being paid. As I progressed through high school, my clientele grew bigger and bigger.

By senior year of high school in 2017, I knew after I graduated I was going directly to cosmetology school. And that’s exactly what I did. I attended Albany Technical College in Albany, GA, for a 12 month period in 2018. I Graduated from the cosmetology program and went directly to take my state board exams. I passed my state board exams and was officially a licensed master cosmetologist in December of 2019. Now here we are, 2020! I moved to Atlanta during summertime this year. I didn’t have a problem gaining clientele because I was already known. I have a huge following of over half a million followers spread across both YouTube and Instagram. This by far has given me the greatest exposure and pushed my name out there. I’m very grateful to be booked and busy constantly here in Atlanta. I love it!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
During the beginning of my career, I faced a lot of struggles. Personally, I had a lot of family members who didn’t want me to do hair. However, I didn’t care what they thought. This was my life, my career, my passion. Business-wise. I found myself always being compared to others in my hometown. As a new stylist, this can be hard on your self esteems and confidence. There were many nights I cried and thought maybe I’m not good enough. But I told myself it’s okay, my time is coming. And my time came. And I’m walking in it now!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Slayed By Jordan is a hashtag that I created in high school, which later became my business name. I’m a licensed cosmetologist who specializes in hair replacement and extension services. I’m known for my super realistic lace front wigs and sew-ins. What sets me apart from others is, although I primarily do extension and hair replacement services, I always maintain the health of the hair underneath. Healthy hair and scalp is always important. I also feel being a licensed cosmetologist sets me apart from others, being now that most stylists these days aren’t. I’m the proudest brand-wise of making my clients feel like superstars when they leave my chair. The feeling of making a woman feel amazing and building her confidence warms my heart.
