Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Hodge III.
Hi Phillip, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well, as you know, I’m an Actor and Model. I didn’t start off wanting to pursue it career-wise. Throughout my younger years, I was an Athlete. I played Basketball in Middle School and Ran Track & Cross Country in High School. The Transition of wanting to become a Model happened during High School. I became more confident in myself Junior Year and my Friend and I just started taking pictures on the iPhone with portrait mode.
Once in College, that’s when I started wanting to take Modeling seriously so I went to networking Events & Networked with a few photographers. How I got into Acting is actually a funny story. Like Modeling, I had no interest in wanting to be an Actor. The suggestion came from my closest friend, Emmet Myers and cousin, Ta’Rell Davidson. I was initially going to college to major in Communications, but they both hounded me so to speak and I gave it a try. My cousin being a Comedian and a creative, I watch him religiously and learned how he was able to Entertain. I’d say that’s when I fell in love with the Arts and wanting to be an Actor. Since then, I’ve been booking on both fronts and haven’t looked back since.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Definitely not, I would say that it was a struggle and still is at times. Networking is a big thing in the “Entertainment Business.” Trying to Network starting off when you don’t know anyone can be difficult, especially if they’re not willing to help. Rejections do come very often and you just have to understand it’s apart of the process. And not take it personally. What’s meant for you will be for you. I would also say coping with knowing that not everyone will support you or your dream can be a struggle. If that’s what you want, Go for it. Regardless of the naysayers or Haters, you have to persist on. You have to Continuously fight for what you want.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
With me being both a Model and Actor, I go to various Auditions and Casting Calls. Before a Casting Call, though, you have to be continuously and religiously Training. In my free time, I’m typically training trying to perfect my craft. I’m practicing my Runway Walk, creating concepts for Photoshoots, reading, Self- Taping Auditions, Becoming my character, etc. I want to be the best and I’m working my way towards that goal.
I said 2021 was going to be the year of “Breakthroughs” for me and everyone. When you steadily grind and work hard, you will reap the rewards. The thing I’m most proud about is definitely my work ethic. While even being an Athlete, I want to work harder than the next guy. Building my Brand from the ground up when many of my peers didn’t believe in me or didn’t give the respect that they gave others is something I’m proud of. You have to believe in the Dream even if no one else does.
What matters most to you?
I would say God, Family, and Friends are what means the most to me. I have a very small circle but those closest to me and support me are the ones who matter most to me. Being a Successful Black Man in this day and age in America is something of importance to me as well. I want to be successful at anything I pursue. Growing up how I grew up, I wasn’t given everything that most of these people I knew back in high school. I’ve always had to grind for what I wanted in life. I’ve had to work ten times harder than the guy next to me. Successfulness is a really big contributor to what makes me who I am today.
