Rising Stars: Meet Zelenka Boyd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Zelenka Boyd.

Zelenka, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My entrepreneurial journey started in 2018; I was newly divorced from my children’s father, still working my job as a 911 dispatcher, but I was feeling like God had more in store for me to do. I have always loved helping people but I didn’t know in what capacity I wanted to help. I was still emotionally healing from a physically abusive marriage, but I felt that my words could help someone else heal as well. I prayed and did a bit of soul searching, and before my 30th birthday God brought my first love back to me… writing. I had always loved to write but I never wanted people to read my work. But there was something about being a newly divorced, single mom of three little ones, and being a domestic violence survivor, that made me realize that I had something to say and people needed to hear my story.

That’s when blogging came to me, and I had no idea what I was doing at first but I knew that if I was committed to this craft then the knowledge and expertise would come; I couldn’t have been more right. Now here I am at 32, with a fairly successful blog, an LLC, a trademark, an online boutique, a journ in the beginnal on Amazon, public speaking engagements, anding stages of a kid’s fashion blog for my babies…. and on top of that, I still have my day job of dispatching at which I’ve now been doing for ten years and I can say for sure that I am walking in my purpose.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, and it still isn’t… but hey, what entrepreneur can say that they have had a smooth journey all the way through? I’ve had moments where I questioned if this is even what I’m supposed to be doing, I’ve made investments where I’ve taken major losses, and I’ve even had physical setbacks such as a broken ankle that took a toll on me creatively, mentally and emotionally.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a 911 dispatcher, and it makes me so proud to say that I serve the public in such an awesome capacity! I think that my job alone sets me apart from others because there are things that I’ve heard over the years that not many people would be able to handle and I have handled them with poise and grace.

Any big plans?
My plans for the future, as of now, is to get my kids’ blogging platform off the ground. In which I think we’re off to a great start because they have been featured on Old Navy’s email and social media platforms several times and they also have two brand ambassadorships that we’re currently working under. As for anything else, I’ll just say that I’m riding the wave to see where God takes me.
