Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Britton.
Hi Teresa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, My name is Teresa Britton. I am originally from New Jersey and I am a creative. Pretty much anything that had to do with the creative arts, I was naturally inclined to throughout my life. I am a SAG-E actress, certified happiness life coach, performing arts teacher, former professional modern dancer and screenwriter. I am also the founder of Dance Arts Education.
Pre-Covid days, Dance Arts Education was a mobile performing arts program for children that worked in and within the school system providing dance, acting and musical theater classes, workshops and performances for the youth to get involved in. Once the pandemic hit however, it transitioned to an online acting program for kids and adults. Dance Arts Education first began when I was hired to teach dance in the Bronx to students with low-statewide testing scores. I really enjoyed it. I had a lot of boys and girls in the class and the kids needed an outlet. Currently, the program provides online acting instruction and has formed a partnership with Grades4Life which is 501c3 in New Jersey that rewards students with good behavior and good grades.
After pursuing the arts in high school, I got accepted and graduated with my BFA in Dance from Rutgers University and began dancing professionally as a modern dancer. While at Rutgers University, I was the Rehearsal Director for the touring MGSA dance company DanceWorks for a year, worked with various other professional modern dance companies and was the lead in the African Dance Ensemble. Simultaneously I was also teaching dance and running off to take acting lessons in NJ and NYC. I taught dance throughout the tri-state area and GA and acting in Georgia, South Carolina and some online international students.
When I moved to the south, I continued my training with various schools in Atlanta while teaching dance at a well-known dance studio in Georgia. I focused on my training, began networking and booked professional acting gigs in film/tv, theater, hosting and print modeling. I also danced for a season or two with a modern dance company in GA.
I became a certified happiness life coach in 2020. When the pandemic hit, I began to explore other ways that I could serve while my business was reforming. It was a scary time. There were so many people going through so much during this time.. myself included and I wanted to help. I began working on a hotline talking to people all over the US. The callers would call in about their fears and challenges and had the option to set appointments with me so that I can speak with them on a consistent basis. I would give them advice, encourage them, provide actionable steps for progress and was a listening ear to help them through their dark or complicated times. It made me feel good to help others. I was surprised to find out that everyone goes through similar challenges in life. I kept getting rave reviews about my work and callers would call in and tell me about their progress and we would attack one goal at a time. I didn’t really understand how my experiences and insight could help people the way it did. It wasn’t until one day a high-profile client called in and went out of her way to tell me how good I was at helping her and suggested I become a life coach… the idea was something that truly resonated with me so I got certified and began developing my clientele.
What I didn’t realise is all of the personal and professional things that I went through and all of the work I did throughout my life with healing and self discovery, encouraging friends or students all made sense for this next chapter in my life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were plenty of challenges to overcome definitely and sacrifices. I grew through a lot.
What makes you happy?
Balance makes me happy. It’s the grand things and little things that bring me joy. Freedom makes me happy and being true to myself and of course passion, love, peace and creativity. Why? It feeds my soul, my heart, mind and spirit. It allows my light to shine and in return I have enough energy to shine on others.
