Daily Inspiration: Meet Kevin Edwards

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Edwards.

Hi Kevin, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story started the day I opened my mouth to sing! As a child, I was bullied by the neighborhood kids and the kids at school. I didn’t understand it then, but today, I know that they saw something special in me that I did not see in myself. For many years, I felt inadequate in my gifts until my 10th grade teacher, Sabra Shores asked me to sing for the high school National Honor Society Induction. I was terrified to sing in front of the entire campus, but I did it afraid and the rest is history. That performance gave me the confidence I needed to use my gift more. I have sung with many groups, released three musical projects, released a book entitled “Poetic Expressions- The Therapy Sessions.” I am currently in production of completing and publishing my first children’s story. I have titled this book “Kevin Turns Fear Into Feat.” The book is told from a child’s perspective of handling a fearful event. I was inspired to write this book after a teacher brought a 3rd grade student to me who sings. My first impression of her was that she lacked confidence and self-esteem. Several days after meeting the new student, I decided to write this book in her honor to present my story it to her. This book will be available April 2,2021. I released two music singles “Great God & For My Good” on December 22, 202o. Both singles are on all digital outlets, plus on my website www.kevinbedwards.com

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, the road has been very rugged. I assumed, as soon as I started this musical/writing journey people would automatically support my endeavors. I am still fighting to do what has been placed inside of me. Not too long ago, I decided to stop singing and writing, but this pandemic changed my mind. After everything was closed and I could not sing, I began to miss it. At that point, is when I heard God saying, “this is what I’ve created you to do.” I said YES to God and the lyrics and writing material began to come.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My degree is in Psychology, but my best work is that of a singer/author. I am most proud of my current and prior recordings because I am being used to encourage God’s people through music. What sets me apart from others is the Anointing that rests over my life. My voice penetrates the heart, and it encourages the disenfranchised.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the diversity of people in Atlanta. Atlanta has the potential to be a Hollywood. I’ve been an extra in Tyler Perry’s films and other film production. Atlanta affords us the ability to reach our dreams. What I least like about Atlanta is the “clicks” mentality that’s prevalent in the Gospel Music scene. I am watching God take my ministry around the “systems” of Atlanta and showing me Favor.
