Meet Jessica Lyness Kendall of Beauty Asylum

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Lyness Kendall.

Jessica, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My makeup training started with Bobbi Brown Cosmetics and I worked for the company for four years. I began working on small side gigs in the bridal, commercial, and boudoir world; pretty much anything I could get my hands on in order to develop a portfolio. I began to create a name for myself by meeting new people and I was able to open up new doors for opportunity through connection. I landed a few corporate jobs providing hair and makeup during the week and I continued to do bridal work on the weekends. I knew bridal was something I wanted to continue to pursue because it’s such a happy moment and I wanted to feed off the energy.

In 2014, Beauty Asylum started with a vision to have a team of the best stylists under one roof. In 2015 I began recruiting stylists to represent the aesthetic and customer experience I wanted to deliver. Shortly after, the Beauty Asylum team launched in Charlotte, NC, with five stylists. Through organic growth and hard work Beauty Asylum is now in five states (Atlanta, Charleston, Charlotte, Dallas, New Orleans) and they have 50+ artists under their umbrella. I currently spend most my time working behind the scenes to make sure everything runs smoothly for our brides.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a bumpy road owning a business. Each year I learn something new and implement the learning curve into our company practice. The biggest struggle right now is balancing our business growth. Currently, we are a small business. The amount of inquiries and demand is pushing our growth into something bigger. Finding the right people to fit key positions is my primary focus. I want to make sure we can continue to deliver an amazing bridal experience.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Beauty Asylum – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Beauty Asylum Hair & Makeup delivers top wedding hair & makeup directly to you. We are a group of award-winning beauty pros that have teamed up to simplify your planning efforts across the beauty industry by combining the best stylists in the business and exceptional organization.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am currently focused on how we can create a better experience for our clients. My goal is to continue to bring on stylists that light up the room and bring big energy to any event. It’s equally important to make sure our team is up-to-date on the current trends and our brides can rest assured for the big day. I am also working on meeting our growth demands.
