Today we’d like to introduce you to Krisandra Evans.
Krisandra, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Yes, like most photographer, I grew up with a camera in my hand. I am one of the few photographers that can actually say they started photographing when there was ONLY film cameras! (And I just aged myself. Haha!)
I went to college and studied photography at two different schools in two different states and have two different degrees in business photography and arts field. Photography is what I do.
However, I didn’t start out “wanting” to photograph weddings. I was more on the commercial and editorial side. Wedding photography just wasn’t an area I knew anything about and really I didn’t know anyone getting married or anyone that was actually married back in 2006 (as odd as that sounds). BUT- the only photographers that would take an intern on or bring me along for real-life photography experience when I was first starting out professionally in Atlanta the Fall of 2007 was wedding photographers. I fell in love with wedding photography because it did combine everything I loved about photography – portraits, product photography, documentary work, creative and traditional aspects.. all the areas needed for a full wedding day. Where had weddings been all my life?!
The word WEDDING just wasn’t a part of my everyday vocabulary. Now, I probably say the word WEDDING at least 7 times a day.
Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? I wouldn’t say it was smooth, but I wouldn’t say it was rocky either.
The main struggle is “knowing more people than you think you will ever need to know”. That was the first lesson I learned from my mentor when I started trying to get my photography business going after my move to Atlanta. And it is the truth! When starting a photography business, or any business for that matter, knowing more people than you think you need to know is key. Having people know you as a photographer is where the word of mouth referrals come from and hopefully, you are the only photographer they know. So, until that happened I took every and any photography job I could even if it was photographing real estate or headshots or flooring (yes, I photographed flooring for a while). Back in 2007, when I first started, it wasn’t clear what field of photography I was going to specialize in. I just knew it had to be photography.
There are a lot of people with cameras out there and a lot of actual photographers out there too, so to stand out in a market of so many creatives and be known for ANYTHING is something I have had to work at. It’s not just knowing people or having the right advertisement, it’s making a positive impact on those people or those advertisements. For me, it was finally making wedding photography an everyday part of my life.
The real struggle was transitioning from part-time to full-time. That challenge took a full year to accomplish, but now I have been full time in wedding photography for 3 years. January 2018 will make 4 years!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Weddings, weddings and more weddings! I probably know more about weddings than any one person should know, haha. I specialize in all things weddings.. from proposals, to engagements to the wedding day.
Photography is an experience and it should be a great experience from beginning to end. I want my couples to feel at ease from that first email they send me. I want my couples to have fun and to be so excited that they can’t wait to see their images. But mostly, I want my couples to be able to look at their wedding photographs and remember that feeling they felt on their wedding day. Every wedding is important and unique in its own way and I understand the that every wedding will require its own attention, that one wedding day will not flow like the next wedding day. I strive to be the wedding photographer that you can send a photo to when you trying on your wedding dress, the wedding photographer you can call when you need reassurance that even if it rains we will still make beautiful photos, the wedding photographer that reminds you to breathe on your wedding day and finally the wedding photographer makes you cry when you get your wedding package in the mail because you get to relive your wedding day all over again.
What greater feeling is there than capturing a memory that the couple will remember later when it has faded as life continues on.
That got deep real fast, haha! But its true, I absolutely love everything about weddings.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Oh my gosh – YES! There are such a variety of weddings happening all the time all over the city and throughout Georgia from elopements, to weekday weddings, to holiday weddings, from small weddings to large and extravagant weddings, brewery weddings, park weddings, downtown rooftop weddings. You name it, it’s here!
If someone was just starting out here ,I would suggest they do what I did.. take every wedding that comes to your way AND NETWORK. Networking is so important in Atlanta and Georgia really. Getting to know other wedding vendors from florist, to DJs, to wedding planners. No wedding vendor is less important than another. Find a wedding photographer you love and intern with them. Second shoot with A LOT of wedding photographers. Get to know your community.

I love reading about such a free spirit and talented lady. I have had the distinct pleasure of watching Krisandra work with a bride and the two of them had stunning chemistry. It’s amazing to know that a bride has handpicked the artist who would be sure to make the memories of the best day of her life, so far, absolutely glorious. Thank you for helping more brides meet Krisandra.
