Community Highlights: Meet Priscilla Latson of Scaffold Staffing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Priscilla Latson.

Hi Priscilla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted more out of life and I have always been ambitious. I have also always been a risk taker. I was born and raised in Chicago, IL. October 2013 I made the decision to uproot myself from everything familiar and moved to Atlanta. I made this decision to move because I felt myself becoming complacent and I needed a challenge. It’s a little funny because that was exactly what I got after moving to Ga. I’ve always been independent but, shortly after my move I realized all I had was me and I had to make it happen. I’m a Sagittarius and in true sag form, I don’t like feeling boxed in, or stuck. I never have. Even as a child, I didn’t sit still. I never let anything stop me and I always made it happen. I’m a leader and I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur. I didn’t know what that would look like but, I knew it would include serving others and working with children. January 16th 2020, I made another big decision. I decided to walk away from my security and my salaried position. I was there for seven yrs. and I was no longer happy nor comfortable and it started to affect my work.

Again, I felt myself becoming complacent and I knew, it was supposed to be more to my story. I asked God for guidance and through various social media posts, and conversations I was given confirmation that it was time. He also made it uncomfortable for me and I was getting that boxed in feeling. Moving forward, when I left that Job, I made the decision to trust God and to bet on me. I refused to give anyone else the privileges of thinking or the power to alter my life or finances. I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur but…… a serial entrepreneur, I wasn’t ready. lol. When I left my previous position, I launched Scaffold Staffing LLC,. Scaffold Staffing is a childcare staffing agency. I started this company because I saw the need. As a Director of an early learning childcare center, occasionally, I had to work with staffing agencies. There would be times that I would need temporary staff to be sure the center was compliant for the safety of the children being served. The agencies would send over staff that weren’t qualified or professional. I have always been one to try to fix a problem instead of complain about it so, I decided to start my own agency. I always like to be of service and help. Individuals, businesses and families go through so much on a day to day basis. Some of the issues they deal with such as marriage, divorce, custody battles, traffic and accidents, contract reviews, identity theft.. just to name a few requires legal assistance. I realized people don’t use a lawyer in situations that they should because lawyers are really costly. I decided to become a legal shield associate. I help individuals, families and small businesses get affordable legal protection.

A few people I would like to thank for helping me be who I am today is 1st and foremost, God. Then my dad may he rest in peace. My mother for being my personal cheerleader, the best manager in the world, my boss lady Ms. Kim Tate for teaching me how to be a professional woman in business. My work parents Mr. & Mrs. Jordan for the guidance and always pushing me to be better and to get out comfort zones. Mr. Jordan would always have random scenarios and pull me into the office to discuss the hypothetical situation and say, “you gotta think”. Shana, for giving me the opportunity to learn how to build and run a business hands on and facilitating my learning. My tribe (Dee Dee, Angelique, Kayla, Grace, Connie and Christina) Last but not least, I want to thank my uncle Darnell for ALWAYS being there and always holding me accountable. He is definitely like a 2nd father to me. Oh…. I can’t forget my fur baby Dior…thank you for being my muse for our new online pet boutique (Forpupsonly) coming soon.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Finances are always a thing to stop or delay a motivated person into pursuing or following their dreams. We, well peaking for myself. I would always let the right now life effect the decisions I would make for my future. I had to realize that there would always be an issue or situation to stop me. There would never be a right time to invest in self and pursue my dreams. It took me getting close to losing everything for me to realize I had to take control of my life.

As you know, we’re big fans of Scaffold Staffing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
The name of my company is Scaffold Staffing. I started this company in June of 2019. I named this company Scaffolds because I wanted to adopt the theory of the Zone of Proximal Development by the behaviorist theorist Vygotsky. Like an actual scaffold that holds a building that is being erected/repaired. I wanted to do this with businesses. I wanted Scaffold Staffing to be the temporary structure that holds a business together until they are able to have stability within their staff. We specialize in training Early Childcare Educators to provide quality substitute services to early childcare learning centers. The thing that sets my agency apart from other agencies is my customer service. My clients and my instructors are getting VIP treatment. I am selective on both the staff I hire and the center’s I partner with. If I can’t comfortably stand behind either, I don’t do business with them. I do not believe all money is good money. Brand wise, I am most proud at the fact that we have sustained thus far. I started this company right before a pandemic. Money can definitely be better but, slow and steady wins the race.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I believe that your network is your net worth. My circle consists of men and women that are successful in their own lives and we hold each other accountable. When one of us wants to do something that we may think to be crazy, our go to phase is…make it make sense to me. After that, we definitely stand behind them and keep them motivated. I encourage everyone to do some research on the business you want to start. Find a podcast, watch YouTube and join groups related to the business on social media.
