Today we’d like to introduce you to Diamond Lewis.
Hi Diamond, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I grew a love for makeup in high school but I never saw myself as a makeup artist. After graduating in 2015, I attended Valdosta State University and that’s when my passion took on a life of its own. While in Valdosta, I wanted to find a way to make money as a “struggling college student”. I grew a small clientele and even sometimes offered free services to grow exposure and experience. In 2018, I moved home to Atlanta. I continued doing makeup as a traveling makeup artist, “Faces of a Dime,” and later that year I was hired as a beauty expert at Prissy In The City. While working their, I grew tremendously as an artist working under one of the greatest beauty guru’s, Javone “Prissy” Nurse. @theprissyrealtor
Faster forward two years later, after deep thought and prayer, I made the decision to step out on my own as a freelance makeup artist. I found my suite home at Pearl Salon Suites in Decatur, GA. This was in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic so it was far from easy. After eight months, my clientele has grown and remained consistent. Besides my amazing support system, I owe all thanks to God. Makeup was never a path I would’ve created for myself. But I know that this was meant for me and I can only become greater!
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I wish I could say the road has been smooth but making the decision to step away from my main source of income to focus on Faces of a Dime had its struggles. Everyone loves a consistent paycheck. When leaving my job, I knew I’d be leaving behind that comfort. I had to re-learn how to save and manage my money. Doing all of this during a pandemic didn’t make it any easier. Business was very slow and inconsistent. Staying motivated was very difficult at the time. Nevertheless, I had a very small but strong clientele that continued supporting me throughout the pandemic, making my decision worth the while.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Being a makeup artist, I aim to create a safe space for clients. Not only do I want my clients to feel beautiful at the end of their appointment but I also want them to feel like they’re hanging with their best friend during the 30 minutes to an hour that we’re together. The Natural Glam is my specialty and my favorite look to create for my clients!
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
People love my personality. Beyond my work ethic, my clients enjoy the conversations we have. I also strive to maintain excellent customer service and I’m not afraid to learn and grow from my mistakes.
