Rising Stars: Meet Cee Tha Gxdd

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cee Tha Gxdd.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was at the age of 13 when I first started writing my lyrics. Around this time, I was staying with my great-grandmother in Hanceville, Alabama. Just like an ordinary family, we faced those daily struggles. Everything being encountered only made it difficult for me to express my emotions. Though, hard times are common so I felt that there was no need, nor time, to complain. I started to use writing as an outlet. Singing covers of popular songs and posting them on instagram is how I gained a following. I took advantage by singing some of the songs I wrote and posting them as well. After a while of consistent uploading, my page started to boost and I began to receive supportive feedback from more of my followers than usual.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I dropped my first song, “Have You Like” at the age of 16. Before the song was dropped, the snippet had already went viral on Instagram. My song started to pop on different sources of entertainment namely Dubsmash, Tiktok, and Musical.ly. Some of the well-known dancers on these platforms including @bracefacelaii and @jhacari danced to it as well. The lyrics even ended up on genius. A few months after, my 52k Instagram (@ceethagxdd) ended up being disabled. Unfortunately, I had to start from the bottom up once again. During this time, I was a senior in high school, not to mention, a drum major as well. Because of the amount of time I spent putting into my education, I couldn’t be as consistent with my music. I was filled with so much discouragement. I spent four years building that page and there were many big artists that followed me. Although it was a major set back, I’ve learned a lot from rebuilding my name. I’ve actually developed new relationships with a lot of LGBT artists and out-of-state producers. My main producer, Gavin (prod.Gxvn), is only 14. He produced “Moonlight”, which is from my Ep named “Soul Therapy”. He’s also produced a single I’ve recently dropped called “Cross”, which is located on all platforms. Every now and then it may become challenging, but I will never let anything or anyone stop me from pursuing something that I know I was built for.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a music artist from Birmingham, Alabama. I’m pretty sure if you were to say “got yo legs up cause you bugging and you scream ouu daddy I’m cumin” to anyone, it’ll ring a bell. The song (Have You Like) has over 600k views on YouTube and 1.5 million streams on SoundCloud. This may not be much to others but it’s a lot to me, mainly because you don’t see it often in my city. With this only being the beginning of my career, I’d say the thing I’m most proud of is that I’m actually doing what I thought I’d never be able to do. I’ve always been extremely shy and introverted but I can honestly say that music is pulling me out of that state. Also, my style is very versatile. Anybody that listens to my music knows that I have a vibe even I can’t explain. One day you may hear me singing about how somebody broke my heart and the next day I may be on some J.Cole shit. The fact that my sound compares to no other is what really sets me apart from any other artist.

What does success mean to you?
My definition of success is accomplishing every set goal I have for myself in due time. It’s also knowing that my family is and forever will be taken care of.
