Inspiring Conversations with Braxton Simpson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Braxton Simpson.

Hi Braxton, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was in the 6th grade, I remember making the basketball team and receiving our uniforms in complete disappointment. I have always been a girly girl, and our uniforms were not fit for a woman. This moved me into action and propelled me to develop uniforms that would allow women to feel feminine in male-dominant sports. This was the very beginning of my journey into social entrepreneurship.

Throughout my journey, I have found that when I feel powerless, I create. I create businesses that address social ills that plague society. For example, I began “Underground Apparel” to allow Black people to find pride in their heritage. I started “Black Girls Read, Too!” to allow for Black Girls to read stories told by women who have similar lived experiences. I started “Woke Wednesday’s” to allow Black people to tell their own stories. I started “In This Skin” to allow for people at the intersection of being both Black, Young, and Female to find a safe space to engage in a podcast that spoke to their reality.

In January of 2021, I took a leap of faith after receiving a grant from the BVB Foundation and streamlined all of my businesses- this was the birth of Braxton Simpson Enterprises, LLC. Braxton Simpson Enterprises takes individuals from “Passion to Purpose” by aiding them in branding themselves and their businesses, providing educational and lifestyle content, providing consultation services, and ultimately serving as a one-stop shop for all things relative to “Black Success!”.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Entrepreneurship is not easy, it is the culmination of hard work and passion. I have been an entrepreneur since I was 13 years old, and I am now 22. With that, I can confidently say that challenges come with the territory. I have created content that people just aren’t rocking with, I have lost everything I had, I have made poor marketing decisions, and I have dealt with a lack of support. However, what I can say is that the challenges and the valleys are what make for a strong entrepreneur.

I am a social entrepreneur- and all of my business ventures are birthed out of a place of activism and a passion for my people. I have continuously kept the people at the center of my service and at the core of my entrepreneurship. Keeping the people in mind has always allowed for the obstacles to seem conquerable.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Braxton Simpson Enterprises, LLC is a one-stop-shop for all things relative to reaching both digital and physical success. Braxton’s internet home is designed to aid individuals in going from “Passion to Purpose” via influencing, social media management, brand marketing, keynote speaking, apparel, custom consultations, and activism.

Braxton’s primary goal is to support individuals in fulfilling their ultimate purpose in this world and providing them with the tools to make an impact in their respective communities and spheres of influence- one person at a time.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Of course! It takes a village to raise a young entrepreneur and I have so many people that have played a role in my growth and success. My parents- Michael and Ronnetta Simpson, have played a huge role in my success, as they taught me what social entrepreneurship was. As a child, my parents owned an educationally enriching summer camp that focused on preparing minority students for the next grade level. It was in those early stages that I learned the importance of aligning your activism with your entrepreneurship. I would also like to thank my brother and sister- Blake and Boston Simpson for grinding with me from the very beginning. Whether it be packaging products, running errands, promoting my content- it has meant the world to me.

I also owe so much of my success to North Carolina Central University’s College of Business and Summer Youth Business and Entrepreneurship Academy for taking me at 17 years old and providing me with all of the tools and opportunities to put my brand in front of the masses. A summer with this amazing HBCU prepared me for life as a social entrepreneur.

I would also like to thank the BVB Foundation for providing me with a grant that has allowed me to take my business to the next level within the last four months. My clientele has grown as a result of the investment the BVB Foundation has made into Braxton Simpson Enterprises, LLC.

I would be remised if I didn’t thank my HBCU- Tennessee State University, for giving me the tools to be successful in life. As someone with a degree in Agricultural Business, I learned various business techniques that will carry me throughout the rest of my life.

I would also like to thank my friends who have supported my business ventures throughout the years, whether it has been purchasing a shirt, watching a video, taking pictures, traveling with me to pop-up shops and events- it doesn’t go unnoticed. Shout out to my college roommate and Creative Director- Camryn Goodman for all of the time she has put into taking Braxton Simpson Enterprises to new heights!

Last but certainly not least, I would like to thank my customers/clients for believing in the mission of Braxton Simpson Enterprises, trusting me with your brands, purchasing my products, and investing in the future of this enterprise.
