Rising Stars: Meet Jaila Sims

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaila Sims.

Jaila, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I am originally from Memphis, TN, but I was living in a small town by the name of Petersburg, VA and I was actually in a state of depression because I knew what I wanted to do with my life, but I didn’t know how. So back in October of 2020, I got a message on Facebook from a well-known man in the Caribbean’s who does past life regression and also an astrologer who goes by Astro Einstein. That message sparked me and I decided to enter his astrology class but not only that, I wanted a past life regression but I couldn’t wait long enough for him to come to Richmond, VA which is about 25 minutes away so I went to Atlanta, Ga which is exactly 7 hours and 30 minutes away.

I got there and I did my regression, and I was so surprised when I found out my destiny was to become an actress and also to travel and help people around the world because I never actually dreamed of being an actress in fact, my dream growing up was to be a dance choreographer. After that regression, I traveled back to Petersburg, VA and went back into depression. Right before Valentine’s Day I heard a voice in my head and it said, “Get up and do something to your hair” so I got up and did just that. Moments later I got a message from a photographer who goes by the name of BlacVisuals on Instagram saying that he wants to do a photo shoot. On Valentine’s, I got a new phone and went to the location to do a photo shoot.

Weeks later, I happened to be on Instagram and a guy I went to school with he’s viral on Instagram, Twitter and Tik Tok and his name is Afolabi Oyeneyin but most people know him as Afo, he was traveling down here for a video shoot and needed someone to keep him up on the way down but at the time I didn’t know why but I stayed up with him and on a phone call and I asked what he was coming down for and he told me a video shoot. Out of curiosity, I wanted to know how he did it but without me asking he helped me and I was extremely surprised because most people don’t help me. From that moment I started applying for different things and I started to get booked but they needed pictures and I never took pictures unless I was on a trip but I instantly remembered that I just took pictures for Valentine’s Day and I realized everything that happened from the moment I met Astro to the moment I met Afo was apart of my path that God put me on. After I was constantly booked I stayed in Georgia for about two months then I decided to move here and exactly three week from today, I moved here and I love it. Now I’m on the road to fulfill my dreams.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
No, the road hasn’t been smooth at all. I kept talking into depression but I realized the things that we’re constantly happening to me that put me in that depressed state were callings to leave where I was at the moment and get rid of certain people in my life. A lot of what happened is very personal but one day, I will feel comfortable enough to share it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At this moment I am an actress, artist and a business woman. I’ve always been creative. From the time I was a kid, I had a creative mind I would write poetry and I would also write out my dreams even if they were nightmares. I did ballet with a collage dance collective in Memphis, TN to calm me in the moment when my mind would overwhelm me because I loved to dance more than anything in the world. I am known for traveling and always following my creative paths and I’m proud of myself for that because I do what’s best for me and I love my life.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Moving to Atlanta was a huge risk because I am a single black 22-year-old with no help and I have to make a way for myself to be successful and I have to hustle a little harder because I didn’t come here already having connects I have to communicate and be active to gain connects.
