Today we’d like to introduce you to DeLarry Sanders.
Hi DeLarry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Well, music has always been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. My parents always listened to great music at our home while growing up. My sister and I would always tease my parents about the music they played sometimes but actually, we really enjoyed it. My father is also a drummer and singer, so drumming kind of came naturally to me. I remember as a kid going to rehearsals with him, sitting in the corner just enjoying the music being played. Also, I used to love looking at my father’s album covers of all the music he used to play and admired the pictures and reading the credits. I told myself I would love to one day see my name in an album.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. Sometimes struggling with confidence and being more consistent was an issue I had early on. You have to really learn yourself and not care about what others think.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
My love for music lead me to join the band at Southwest DeKalb high school in Decatur, GA. I participated in all bands, symphonic, marching, and jazz. Right after high school, I was blessed to be a part of the classic movie Drumline as well as The Fighting Temptation. Being a part of Drumline lead to various tours, one being the UniverSoul Circus and the theatrical production Drumline Live. In 2009, I met the artist B.o.B and became his drummer until 2012. That experience was like none other! I’m so thankful for the opportunity B.o.B gave me. We traveled all over the world! It was also a goal to start my own business, so in 2010, with one of my best friends Brandon Benton, we started a company called Percussion Kings, LLC. The services include The Keep Drumming Program for children ages five and up, performances, media and apparel. I’ve always had a passion for working with children, so through my company is how I give back.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Nothing really surprising. Those who know me know me, lol.
