Meet Ralita Duncombe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ralita Duncombe.

Ralita, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I had just gotten out of the military and I had absolutely no idea what I wanted to do when I got out. I had practically a newborn baby and I knew that I didn’t want to be bored at home. I signed up for cosmetology school at Empire in Indiana and from there, I quickly realized that doing hair was not for me. Once we got to the nail module, I learned that that was what I saw myself doing. I felt like doing nails allowed for more creativity. I was able to show tremendous skill (and improvement of course). From there, I moved from salon to salon to find my place and I knew just from that, that working for someone else was not for me. I started working from home in 2019 and grew my skills and knowledge. In the peak of the pandemic, I grew my clientele from 0 to 62 in a matter of a few weeks and then Daisy Dunit was born (shout out to my husband for the last name wordplay and my mom for the nickname). Daisy Dunit became me. Once I opened my studio this year, I knew that this was only the beginning and I was ready to expand my business and my name. My number one goal is to be able to create generational wealth for my kids and have something to pass down to them.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This has definitely not been a smooth road. From many thoughts of self-doubt, to completely stepping away from the nail industry for almost a year, to being shut down by my apartment manager, I was so discouraged but had so much support from my family and clients that I knew that this was NOT the end. I had to prove to myself that I didn’t start this journey in vain.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a nail technician. I specialize in nail HEALTH and freestyle sets.

What matters most to you?
What matters to me most is making sure each and every person who sits in my chair gets a quality experience and I’m able to see them smile. My number one goal in life is to see other people happy and if I did that, then I know I’m doing something right.
