Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Russett.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love for photography and the dream to be a photographer started when I was roughly eight years old. I have always had a love for art but seeing my cousin who is a photographer in action when I was younger just really hit it off for me. Ever since then when I was in school I always looked for the art classes until we finally had a class where I could learn more in-depth about photography and videography. The classes I took in school only lasted for a year but even after that, I was constantly asking for a camera.
After a few years of being out of school in 2013, I was working in Real Estate and really wanted to start a career that I loved. As I continued on with my Real Estate business I welcomed my son into the world and that’s when it hit me. I was young and couldn’t afford most of the photographers around so I thought I would finally do what I love and get great images of my son. I thought if I had everything I needed I could start a business and offer more affordable services to those around. Within a few weeks, my husband not only purchased a nice camera for me but also a complete studio setup. Within a few months, I was already doing free sessions for some of the people I went to school with as well as complete strangers from around.
Today I am very thankful for how far I have come with my photography and can’t wait to expand it even more. I have the local photographers around and in my life to truly thank for getting me starting and telling me exactly what I need to learn.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There have been some minor struggles along the process of starting in 2013. Majority of the struggles just come from starting out and getting the settings just right on your camera. This is a big part it getting the perfect pictures. Other than that the only other struggle would be getting started and getting more clients in who appreciate your hard work. Photography is not just taking pictures it’s so much more, between the time invested, money for props, travel and all the editing hours. Even though some of the time away has been a struggle I have powered through and in a much better place now. You really have to be able to manage your time wisely to get things done in a timely manner.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My company revolves around everything family. I like to throw in any type of portraiture to make my clients happy. I do everything in my power to make children feel welcome and comfortable to get the genuine smiles that mom and dad truly want.
I am currently doing all session types from Couples, Engagement, Weddings, maternity, newborn, children’s, family, seniors and so much more. If a client has a special request for a session I just have them send it my way and we work it all out.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a rambunctious outgoing child. My interests were solely always sports, being active and you always could find me drawing up new creations or with a book in my hand.
