Hi Melissa, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
NappStar is a black-owned, women-owned business founded by my sister and I (Melissa & Annette). We believe standing out and having locs shouldn’t be limiting but liberating. A NappStar is a trailblazer that upholds a standard for the loc journey.
Over the last 11 years in business NappStar is becoming more than a salon or products, it is a movement. We started with salons but now are focusing on education and creating standards for our industry. NappStar is giving a strong voice to the underrepresented community of people with locs and those who are passionate about them.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
NOT AT ALL!! Progress is never easy.
– Balancing motherhood and being an entrepreneur with multiple businesses is always a give and take struggle.
– Creating systems in your business that work across multiple businesses is something we are still trying to perfect.
– Our culture is changing- trying to find work life balance for our team members while being a high-demand business has been challenging.

– We specialize in locs! -Our Atlanta clients tell us that they love our salon because we have really good customer service, great energy and keep our appointments on time.
– We are super proud that we have a creative space that our team members can grow in. We want to establish ourselves as the go to place for locs in this amazing city! I think we are on our way to doing it.
– We offer all the services and products you need to have an amazing loc journey. We are available Tuesday – Saturday and have happy, friendly, welcoming team that has been trained by Annette.
