Meet Cabbagetown Photographer: Erik Meadows

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erik Meadows.

Erik, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve been an artist my whole life, in some form or another. I was an English major and poet in college. I did some freelance sportswriting after graduation. I’m a formally trained jazz drummer and blues guitarist. I was contemplating a career change and happened upon some gorgeous documentary style wedding photos online. I thought that wedding photography looked really exciting and like something I could do. After shooting so much food at weddings, and finding that I had an eye for it, I also began shooting food coverage for some local and regional publications such a Creative Loafing Atlanta, and The Local Palate.

Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been pretty smooth, I think because I work really hard, and I make it a point to emphasize customer (and client) service just as much as I emphasize great photography.

What role has luck had in your life and career?
Not much. I don’t really believe in luck, so it’s difficult for me to really answer this question. I think opportunities are all around. You just have to be mindful and hone in on them.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Probably most important is that I am a very passionate person. I think that passion has certainly fed my desire to seek new opportunities, to work hard, and to really build something from the ground up.

Tell us about your favorite and least favorites things about our city.
I love Atlanta. It’s a beautiful melting pot of all kinds of people from many different walks of life. I would say that it’s unfortunate that our tastes in the arts are not as advanced or developed as some of the other great U.S. cities such as New York, San Fransisco, or Chicago.
