Today we’d like to introduce you to Destinie Walton.
Destinie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
To give a basic brief background I am originally from Queens, NY and the oldest of five siblings three sisters and one brother. My mother decided she wanted a change and it was really hard to raise five children living in New York City as a low-income family. When we moved to Atlanta I was thirteen years old it was an adjustment but we grew to love the city. Fast forward to the age of twenty-one by that time I had my two-year-old son and gave birth to my daughter so my small family started early. I was a stay at home mom for a while and my boyfriend (father to my children) worked and took on taking care of the household. Eventually, I started working when we were able to put our kids in school. I worked just a regular 9 to 5 in a warehouse as a trainer for a textbook company. Even though I came from a low-income household and started my family in my early adulthood I knew I wanted better and refused to settle for the lifestyle I grew up in and the struggles I faced as an adult. In 2018 that’s the year everything changed for me I decided I was done working a warehouse job and I wanted a real skill that I can grow in and provide for my family. I took a leap of faith and quit my job in 2018 to go to beauty school full time to become an esthetician. It was a challenge committing to school full time with no job but I had my boyfriend/father to our children (Kenneth) by my side as my biggest support system through it all even now he is my biggest hype man and always have my back. Full body waxing became my favorite service to do in school and I knew this would be my path in esthetics. I was so determined and worked hard I was hired a month before I graduated at a small wax studio. I was able to train for my last month in school and started immediately working once I was licensed from there on everything took off for me. I developed all the skills I needed to be successful and studied how the business was being operated to know what to do and what not to do for my own business. In 2020 D.W. Beauty Work Intimate Wax LLC was established this was a huge accomplishment for me to finally be a small business owner. Through dealing with the pandemic I was blessed to keep my business running successfully and keep growing. I have 3 years of experience providing full body waxing services for women I also provide Vajacial and V-steaming services. I love giving my clients great comfort when they come to me my services are done in a short time frame as well as it being performed with good attention and detail. I work in a private suite located at 927 Main Street Stone Mountain, GA 30083 inside Capricorn Salon Studios suite 113. I also have great news to share D.W. Beauty Work Intimate Wax LLC will be relocating to my first store location at the New Black Wall Street Market at 8109 Mall Parkway Stonecrest, GA 30038 please sign up for my email list to get updates for my grand opening of my new location I will still be taking appointments at my private suite until then. This whole experience has taught me that nothing is out of your reach anything is possible if you are willing to put in the work and make it happen and this is only the beginning for me it’s so much more to come!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Everything has been going well for me when I first started my business in 2020 it was slower in the beginning due to the pandemic but business has been good and I will be relocating to my first store location real soon at the New Black Wall Street Market.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed esthetician I specialize in full body waxing for women and I make some of my own body products sugar scrubs, whipped shea butter, body oils, and turmeric soap bars. I will definitely say great customer service is the number one thing that sets me apart from others and my reviews speak for me which I am grateful for. I believe in treating people the way that I want to be treated and that also applies to business. I love to make sure all of my clients are relaxed and feel comfortable during each appointment and educate them on how to do proper maintenance in between waxing. I also provide vajacial service which is a vaginal facial to help remove ingrown hairs and v-steaming which have many benefits including boosting fertility, ph balance, and reducing menstrual cramps. Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I project my industry of work will continue to have a high demand in the years to come also with it being the most convenient and affordable hair removal service.
