Today we’d like to introduce you to Antrice Sankey.
Hi Antrice, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself
My name is Antrice Sankey, and I was born and raised in Montgomery, AL. I’ve always been creative, artistic, and great with anything hands-on since a child. I remember standing in my grandmother’s bathroom door as a child and watching her put on her makeup, and telling her I was going to wear makeup too, when I got older. I started off collecting lip-smackers chapstick in elementary school, to wearing eyeliner, mascara, and lip gloss in middle school, to then doing my eyeshadow and putting on blush before I cheered for a game in high school. I then started doing makeup for family and friends after school for some quick cash. I was charging $15-$20 at the most for a full face. Just like many other entrepreneurs, I hated my 9-5 and felt like I would be happier working for myself. I quit my job working at a call center in 2018 and never looked back. I started doing makeup full time and my business skyrocketed. I was able to get my own suite and did makeup there until I went off to esthetics school. What made me consider esthetics is that I wanted to grow my brand and find a way to help my clients love the skin that they are in, outside of makeup. I loved making them feel beautiful by enhancing their beauty with makeup, but I wanted them to love their natural skin just as much.
In late 2018, I went to ATL, GA and toured Atlanta Institute of Aesthetics. I fell in love with the school and knew that was a part of my purpose. I applied and got accepted and started school July 2019.
I went through alot during my school year. It was a lot of stress traveling back and forth from Montgomery, AL to ATL, GA every week, I was staying with a family member that put me out a few weeks into my program, but I was given the opportunity to stay with a classmate so that I could complete my program. The original 11 month program was also prolonged because of the pandemic. I was mentally, emotionally, and physically exhausted most days, but I enjoyed every second of my journey. The people I met are forever engraved in my heart, and I gained sisters while there.
After finishing in September, I moved back home and hit the ground running. Having previous business owning experience, I found a suite and started working. I knew my services were needed back at home. I could have easily stayed in ATL and started my business there, but didn’t see the point when my own community is in need of these skincare and therapeutic services.
After a little over a year in business, I have serviced over 1,000 clients, and continue to gain new clients daily, moved into a bigger location, and added on many services such as yoni steams and intimate skincare services.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I always say, “Entrepreneurship is not for the WEAK”. It’s tough. I’ve faced the classic burnout numerous times. Sometimes, I get so caught up with work, I don’t make time for myself. However, it’s SO rewarding! I love meeting so many men and women, who want to take their skin and mental health more seriously, especially after this pandemic, and they just don’t know what steps to take. I love being that missing piece in their journey and helping steer them the right way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in Skin Correction, specifically hyperpigmentation and acne.
I work hard to make my sessions therapeutic for my clients, whether it be by selecting music that helps relax them, sound therapy, aromatherapy, touch therapy, or just being a listening ear.
At Antrice Aesthetics, we also provide intimate health and skin services, such as Yoni Steaming, Intimate Waxing, Vajacials, and Intimate Lightening Services.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I love listening to music when I work. I listen to Toni Jones, Londrelle, 90s R&B, and sometimes meditation music. Some podcasts that I enjoy are Gumbo Therapy Podcast (@gumbotherapy), Balanced Black Girl, Brown Girl Self-Care, and Manifest Daily on Spotify.
