Today we’d like to introduce you to Alicia Segars and Cooper Hudson.
Alicia and Cooper, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Cooper & I met working together at Last Resort Grill almost 20 years ago. We often talked about opening a restaurant together and in 2006 we opened the original Mama’s Boy location serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. The first few years were very challenging due to the recession and fine-tuning what worked best for us. Those years you’d find one of us in the kitchen making biscuits, cooking on the line, washing dishes or on the floor talking to customers. We were very determined to make this work every day. We learned early on that Athens loves breakfast so in 2010 we transitioned to serving breakfast & lunch. Our dinner business transitioned to catering events. Our catering business grew so much that we rented a catering location in the hopes of someday finding a location where we could have another Mama’s Boy and a catering kitchen. In 2016 we finally found the perfect spot at The Falls of Oconee and we opened our doors October 2017.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Lol. Definitely not a smooth road. We have experienced many ups and downs.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are in the people business and care about our employees and the community we serve. What sets us apart are our people. We have an amazingly talented Executive Chef who is dedicated and passionate about food and we have an awesome team. Also, as we have grown it has been a joy to see the friendships that have developed over the years. We are best known for breakfast.
What were you like growing up?
Alicia played piano, loved cooking & art. Quiet and reserved.
Cooper played soccer, was on the swim team and ran cross country. Outgoing and super friendly.
