Today we’d like to introduce you to Jerry (Finger Roll) Brokemond.
Hi Jerry, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey as a young kid born and raised in a small city Gary Indiana. I fell in love with music as a teen and pursued it in every way it came lol My first come out was a local Dj that’s where my name Finger Roll came from it was named by people in my hood that saw I was good with my fingers on the turntables. In the 90s, I started getting into producing music I got the opportunity of my life to work at a known studio in Gary In called Solid Gold Records on 45th broadway. I told the owner I will come there every night and day and learn how to master this equipment if u let me run this thing and that’s what I did.
Fast forward I became the known producer/engineer in my city recording tons of music and putting out artists I mean the full package I was engineering the sessions, developing acts, and doing the packaging turning it into a product to sell. I was already young and learned how to run a business and how the music industry works from my mentor. So soon after I knew it would be time to open business for my self and I started No Tamin Entertainment I found a place for rent up a block on 46th and broadway and turned it into a studio I developed mentored and produced artists it was like a trap house but instead, I slanged rap music and sold it lol I stayed hungry worked hard and built relationships, and made a known name for myself with local artist and surrounding parts in the Midwest. I would get calls from major labels to my studio asking questions about what we were doing over there, I’m known for my group Outside me and C-saw my No Tamin family click of the artist and producing and developing artist Freddie Gibbs who was nominated for Grammy.
In 2009 I knew I had to keep moving up my city was not the best place to be in lol so I moved to Atlanta and started to plant my seed, I started working with a friend from my hometown by the name of Don Vito he took me under and showed me how it works in Atlanta introducing me to key people and how to conduct yourself and look great. Today you can find me in Atlanta running my studio business producing (Ro Roll It is my tag so when you hear that) and my new opened cloud kitchen restaurant (Drum Roll Please) Wild Eats where you can pull up and get the best food combinations for your wild taste buds. Life is great and my story is truly a movie I only can say so much here so one day everyone will get to see it playback in a movie or documentary.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Has it been a smooth ride mmmm I would say some avenues have been straight for what you love to do that’s easy but for the most part no because you have to constantly stay focused work hard make sacrifices and watch out for those who are trying to use you for what you are great at you have to know your value and when to walk away from situations or deals that are not in your best interest. My only struggle would be focusing on myself at times lol because I’m that type of person I would look out after and help others just anyone who can show me that has a desire a vision or just a concept. I can say I put people in great positions and gave them the mindset of business. But I feed off people’s will to do…I think mainly because at the end of the day I’m a producer I try to magnify what’s in front of me and take to the next level. I learned at an early age to stay prayed up, be humble, always stay real with people and build relationships with that being done at an early age I gained respect with people I have value and major resources that is in the back of my pocket I can choose to use whenever if you understand. I feel blessed and thankful to come out of a small city that has support for me and I’m still doing what I love.
