Today we’d like to introduce you to Cachet Carter.
Hi Cachet, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I was a little girl at only five years old. My friend taught me how to braid hair on my Barbie doll. Throughout the years, I maintained an interest in doing hair. I even gained my own clientele while in high school. One year I asked my mother to go to a dance and I wanted her to buy me an outfit. She said I needed to start charging my friends to do their hair. Once I started charging my friends, I began to improve my skills tremendously. Eventually, I will enrolled into cosmetology school in the 11th grade. I earned my Cosmetology license after my high school graduation in 2007.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Doing hair hasn’t been easy but definitely worth it. In the beginning it was very easy to gain clientele in my hometown of Akron, OH. Once I moved away and went to college in Cincinnati, Oh, I wasn’t as focused on doing hair. Once I graduated from college, I wanted to pursue doing hair full time. It was a challenge because I was not familiar with the current trends and I felt behind as far as my skill level. I ended up working at a haircut chain salon and took a major pay cut. In the end, it was worth it because they offered free classes and my co-workers helped me improve my skills. From this point on, it was easy for me to gain clientele. It was easier to market my services to potential clients.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a master cosmetologist. I specialize in weaves, natural hair and braids. I’m very proud that I was able to move Atlanta, a place where I didn’t know many people and gain a clientele. I think was sets me apart from other hairstylists is I am a very personable. I like to think of my salon as a safe space for my clients to gain advice or simply vent or share personable experiences or issues that they’ve been dealing with. I love to motivate and encourage them become the best version of themselves and to always focus the positive things in life.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was a very outgoing child. I was always involved in cheering, dancing and step team while growing up. I always had a lot of friends. I loved to host parties and sleepovers.
