Today we’d like to introduce you to De’Ja Armstrong.
Hi De’Ja, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have been an artist for most of my life. My way of artist expression flows to whatever medium inspires me in that moment. I find love in visual arts, poetry, and music. I turned my love for the arts into a career by way of photography, video production, and creative direction. My company is called Girl Meets Film. The name was inspired by my love for film photography. I specialize in nostalgic film. I incorporate a lot of film photography, VHS, and Super 8 film in my projects. I recently moved to Atlanta with a goal to grow in my Art and to expand my company.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Anything worth having never comes easy. My biggest obstacle was learning to fully surrender to the process of my becoming. It was all internal obstacles, but I worked through these obstacles by affirming what I wanted out of life in all aspects. In 2021 I took a leap to quit my job, move out of state, and completely change career paths. It scared me but I knew great reward can be on the other side of fear. Remaining true to self and surrounding myself with positive influences and having a support system helped me tremendously.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My company ‘Girl Meets Film’ specializes in nostalgic film. I am most recognized for my film photography and unique usage of VHS and Super 8 cameras. Along with photography and videography, I also offer creative direction and social media management for project rollouts. I treat all projects as my own and I give more than what the client expects. I enjoy working with clients from all stages. From rising artists to mainstream artists and even startup companies. My favorite part about working with clients on their projects is being able to walk with them through the process from start to finish.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see Atlanta officially taking the crown for its influence on the Art world. There are so many talented artists in all disciplines here. Atlanta influences everything and I believe the world will see that very soon.
