Conversations with James Culp

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Culp.

Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started out as a battle rapper in the 90s. Going from small stage to small stage never hit the big time but put up many a memorable performance. in 2002 I started the now defunct 850 records out of Winchester VA. The was 7 artist including myself on 850z. We did standard small tours and releases selling over 100k albums out of the trunk of our cars up and down the east coast. This probably spanned from 04-08. In 09, I retired from music to become a full-time father. It was a hard decision but the right decision. During 2020 in quarantine I decided it was time to start putting together a team again and start making music. The first artists I signed were AyoNicky and Du$k-Bonez together with them and our visual artist Dustin Walker we can up With Pale Garbage Rappers. Since then we have been building it into the products you see today. We have a website, an NFT collection, A YouTube channel, Over 20 artists constantly working to drop content every month and YouTube channel that has over 7K subscribers now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The hard part was coming up with a plan everyone could get behind. Since then it’s all just been executing a plan.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am 27 years veteran in the music game and a Jack of all trades at this point. I started out rapping which lead to me wanting to record. So I learned engineering from high lead to me wanting to master my recordings. So I learned mastering. Then we wanted to do visuals so I learned film and video editing. Then we had to get all of this to the public so I learned marketing. What I’m most proud of is that every time we had a raid to cross I thought myself how to cross it with only the help of the team I put together.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Paegarbagerappers.com any time I get down on what we’re doing I just look at how far we’ve come in five months. We are my own best motivation.
