Check Out Dr. Tomisha Price-Brock’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Tomisha Price-Brock.

Hi Dr. Price-Brock, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started my initial company, Prodigious Music Concepts, LLC in 2011, as a response to the growing number of minority teacher candidates who faced challenges passing their teacher licensure exams. Failure on these exams often caused many candidates to change their majors while still in school, not complete their degrees, or choose a career path other than their desired path.

I began tutoring a few students at a time to help them pass the exam. This quickly expanded into a larger venture, and today I have a clientele of over 100 candidates across the country and internationally, including teacher candidates in the state of Georgia and the Atlanta Metro region.

To date, I have helped over 100 teacher candidates pass their exams and achieve full licensure.

Once I relocated to Las Vegas, I had a vision to open a second company, The HBCU Recruitment Center, geared towards helping students from the west coast attend our nation’s Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Our main focus is on Black and multicultural communities, underserved and underrepresented communities, throughout the western region of the United States. With this company, we assist with matching students with colleges that carry their desired degree programs at an affordable rate and also assist them with setting up personalized campus tours and securing scholarships and other financial aid to attend these institutions.

Today, both companies are experiencing exponential growth, and we are continuing to develop and enhance our services and outreach to our local, national, and international communities.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road thus far with only minor challenges. Initial challenges were finding a suitable office space to support our operations and future growth. With patience and careful research, we were able to find that location and officially open a physical office space on March 1, 2022.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a licensed music educator with over 18 years of experience on both the K-12 and college/university levels. Outside of my teaching responsibilities, I serve as a licensed Educational Consultant and Professional Development Provider for Music Educators across the country.

I am the current President of the HBCU National Band and Orchestra Directors’ Consortium, and I also own two companies. I am the Owner/CEO of Prodigious Music Concepts, LLC, where we provide comprehensive music instruction, educational consulting, and professional development services for K-12 music educators and administrators, and college/university students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

I am also the Founder/Executive Director of The HBCU Recruitment Center, where we provide educational consulting and specialized college search and matching services for students and families in the western region of the United States.

I am most proud of our accomplishments with our companies so far and for the proud honor of being the only provider in the country of specialized tutoring services for music teacher candidates taking the music licensure exams.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I’ve always loved the Atlanta metro area for its progressiveness, opportunities for career growth, business opportunities, and how welcome the residents are. Even though I moved out of the Atlanta area several years ago, I have always maintained close personal and professional connections there and continue to do business with several entities and people in that area.

There’s really not anything I dislike about Atlanta. I’ve always considered it to be my second home. I’m in Atlanta several times throughout the year.
