Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenny Vocals.
Hi Kenny, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My family has always been involved in music but for some reason, I did not catch the singing bug growing up. I believed I couldn’t sing and had no interest in music. However, everything changed when I was casually singing “Let me Love you” by Mario one day and I got a huge compliment from a friend that I sounded good and asked if I wanted to be an artist. I had never received a compliment about my singing so I was puzzled. I decided to record myself on my phone singing this song and sent it to a couple of my friends anonymously without revealing who was singing. They responded that whoever was singing had a good voice and that was how my obsession with singing started. I practiced many times in my room that summer with my brother, Ecool, and it got to the point that everyone in my household was frustrated and tired of me singing. The rest, as they say, is history. I will be dropping an EP before the end of 2022. Despite my love for music, I always wanted to become a doctor and I achieved that in 2017 when I graduated a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm-D) and I am thankful to God for where I’m at currently in life.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It wasn’t always a smooth road. Pharmacy school was one of the hardest experiences I had to endure; sleepless nights, countless exams, etc. Trying to balance making music, working at the same while going to school was tough but I pulled through. I believe that you’re as tough as your mind and If you can develop a tough mind, you can almost get through anything.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a musician and I love making music. Over the years, I’ve created many covers, especially on Instagram. Mainly acapella covers/snippets of some of my fav artists, as I’m a huge fan of “strip down unadulterated” singing. I’m most proud of the music I’m about to release. What sets me apart from the rest is I believe I bring real singing to the table. I have worked very hard to get to this point
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice is to work on your instrument first before anything and be intentional about it. Become the best version of yourself and your talent, together with hard work will make way for you.
