Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill and Steve McKenzie.
Jill and Steve, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
A product designer for most of his career, Steve wanted to bring his art to life on textiles, thus the first collection of digitally printed fabrics was born in 2012. The proper venue was needed, someplace collected and curated yet homey and comfortable, so we decided to open our brick and mortar shop, steve mckenzie’s in the fall of 2012. Fans range from college students to top luxury designers as we work with retail and trade clients, also representing many boutique furniture and fabric lines in our showroom. Interior design is a natural extension of our business, from full remodel to paint selection for today’s busy families all over Georgia and the Midwest.
Has it been a smooth road?
Being the new kid on the retail block has been a struggle, so we work very hard at publicity, marketing and building community by holding classes and events.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the steve mckenzie’s story. Tell us more about the business.
Steve is the interior designer, fabric designer, big picture planner. I (Jill) am the back of house, showroom floor operations and outside sales to Southeastern designers. Both of us, truly enjoy the activity on the sales floor interacting with clients, proud to help someone find that perfect gift or chair.
Customer service sets us apart. We know what we expect in customer service and strive to exceed expectations.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
It’s tough, competing with online shopping. We offer a relaxing, inspirational environment where you can take your time and study the layers to making a room special. Of course, we’re here to offer assistance and will take the wheel of a project for a client.
