Meet Decatur Entrepreneur: Tammy Galloway

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Galloway.

3 Girls And A Needle started in the garage of Tammy Galloway almost 13 years ago in November of 2003 doing hair extensions (Weave). With her quality of work performed along with Grade A Customer service, her clientele begins to grow and grow. Her clientele became so big that she went to 2 friends to help her out which is when she joked and named the 3 of them 3 Girls And A Needle. The clients would say hey that’s a cute name and it was very easy to remember. After a few years in business, neighbors started complaining to authorities about all of the in and out traffic at her home. Code enforcement came to her home to issue her a citation for signs on the streets that she used for advertisement (Bandit Signs) She did have a business license for 3 Girls And A Needle, but not knowing the laws of no one can have a business out of their homes in a residential area where people are coming into it in heavy volume. You can have a business in your home working out of it as an office, but no one should be coming to your home for any type of services unless it’s zoned for commercial use. After paying serious fines and hit with an audit by the IRS, which resulted in having to pay over $10,000.00 to the IRS in back taxes. She began educating herself with books and talking with many people who were experienced business owners that God had put in her path. In 2008 she opened up 3 Girls And A Needle in Ellenwood Ga in a space about the size of 16×36. In 2009 she trained and employed over 8 employees to assist her with her high demand services. Now everything in order from Sales Tax I.D (which has to be paid by the 20th of every month), Georgia Dept Of Revenue, FEIN #, Corporation filed, Business bank account, Business License through the county, State board Licence for the business, Hiring Licensed only Stylist in the State of Georgia,Payroll through Paychex, Workers Comp insurance, General Liability insurance, Paying Property Taxes for Schools, Police, etc, Personal property taxes, Vendors for inventory, Product Suppliers, As an employer- paying employee and unemployment taxes, 401-k for employees, Human Resource, and so so so much more. 3 Girls And A Needle continues to grow and grow which means their supply was at high demand. In 2010 more space and employees were needed to accommodate her clients’ demand. She closed down the small Ellenwood location in July of 2010 and moved to a 2,500 sq ft location in Dekalb County at 4826 Flat Shoals Parkway, Decatur Ga. 30034. This location employees over 20 highly trained employees and has served over 10,000 customers and still growing. Tammy’s sister Nikia DeJoie is the amazing Makeup artist with an anointing to do transformations that enhance the body and soul. 3 Girls And A Needle is a very cheerful giver to College funds, Churches, NonProfit Organizations for feeding and clothing the homeless, and she also donates her time to give education on business as a no cost mentor. She knows that God has truly blessed her to be a blessing to others and she sits back and watches God provide her every need. She gives this advice to anyone- no matter your race, sex, or gender to pray to God on what it is that you are here to do and allow God to direct your path and your success won’t be temporary but it will be for eternity.

Has it been a smooth road?
Yes, it has been a smooth road once we drove over all the potholes in the beginning.

Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I don’t believe in luck, everything is already written in each of our lives over 2000 years ago. Nothing just happens and everything happens for a reason. Great things as well as what some would consider bad things have happened in my life, and I have learned from the good and bad.

Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
Honesty, Treating others with respect, Offering a peaceful workplace, Great Customer Service, Suppling quality products and services.

What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I like that our City gives everyone a chance at pursuing their dreams as an entrepreneur. I love seeing the moms and pops businesses, especially the ones with very unique concepts. The thing that I like least is the increase in the crime rate. I wish that everyone could love and respect one another regardless of our differences no matter who you vote for, no matter your religion, where you live, your race, etc. It takes more effort to hate than love and you gain more from love and lose more from hate. We get more done walking together in love. Out of love We find cures and gather together to support those that are going through tough times like cancer, depression-losing a loved one, substance abuse and we lose more in hateful things like war, crime, etc. We hurt ourselves and others when we choose hate over love.
