Meet Alessio Loreti of E.L.K. Media and AlessioRLoreti.com in Grant Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alessio Loreti.

Alessio, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in Naples, FL and then attended Florida State University where I received a degree in Civil Engineering. Upon graduating, I moved to Atlanta and have lived here ever since – will be 9 years this May! During the day, I’m a manager at a construction litigation consulting firm and outside of that I am an avid photographer. Recently, I also co-founded a media company specializing in commercial, real estate, construction and aviation photography. I first got into photography, when I purchased a camera for a month long trip to Italy in the summer of 2011.

Instantly, I found that I always had a camera in my hand and spent as much time as I could, learning the ins and outs of photography. My brothers (I’m one of 4 boys) were also into photography and cinematography around the same time so, swapping our latest photos and technical knowledge of gear kept me interested in the hobby well after I returned from my trip. Being in a big city like Atlanta, allows me the opportunity of exploring and photographing endless locations and subjects. I mainly enjoy architecture and landscape photography as it merges with my background in engineering and construction, but more and more lately, I have been spending time getting better at portrait photography. In the Spring of 2017, I did my first engagement shoot and also was hired for a private event. Due to the great feedback, I decided to finally pursue photography as a business and started E.L.K. Media.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
In the beginning, I struggled with believing that my photography was good enough to build a business around. I spent several years and countless hours making mistakes and refining my style until I felt comfortable putting myself out there. With the support of my amazing wife and positive feedback from some of my favorite photographers, I finally gained the confidence to pursue it as a viable business. These days, my biggest challenge is balancing photography and being a Dad, as my wife and I, welcomed our first child, 4 months ago.

E.L.K. Media was founded in the Fall of 2017 and specializes in real estate, construction, commercial and aviation photography. What sets us apart is that we spend a great deal of time behind the scenes developing and planning every aspect of a shoot before we even arrive on site. This includes creating inspiration boards, brainstorming with our clients, reviewing aerial maps of the location, planning natural lighting around the latest weather forecasts, assigning responsibilities between crew members and inspecting/preparing all the necessary gear. In addition, our educational backgrounds are in the areas of engineering, construction, aviation and design so we know the ins and outs of our subjects.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have started a business much sooner. Because of social media and the popularity of photography these days (Instagram, etc), I spent too much time comparing myself to others and worrying if my photos were ‘good enough’. I’ve come to realize that, time is our most valuable resource and I wish I would have trusted in the positive feedback I was receiving, believed in myself sooner and got off to an earlier start in building a business.
