Life and Work with Krystol Hines

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystol Hines.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Krystol. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I moved to Atlanta in 2009 to attend Physical Therapy (PT) school at Emory University. I fell in love with the city and opportunities. I went into PT school knowing that I wanted to treat in Sports/Orthopaedics. I found myself in an orthopaedic setting focused on occupational medicine, a.k.a. worker’s compensation where I treat Industrial Athletes. I loved treating ortho impairments with less restrictions posed by insurance as compared to outpatient orthopaedics. I continued to grown in this field and was managing 11 clinics across 3 states by my third year as a licensed physical therapist. As I continued to grow, I missed sports! I’ve played sports since I was 4 years old. Tee ball, baseball, softball, basketball, track and field, volleyball and rugby. I decided to start my own concierge physical therapy practice, Made4movement PT to get back to those roots. I believe that any person benefits from movement and it just so happens that sometimes, the movements that we like can lead to movement deficiencies or injury. I believe people should be able to participate in any sport or exercise that they enjoy, for as long as they can and as healthy as they can.

We have all heard about popular injuries that are associated with particular sports, ACL repairs with soccer and basketball. No activity is without risk so my goal is to help my clients achieve optimum mobility and motor control to improve or maintain performance. The benefits of concierge physical therapy is that I am not required to base my treatment options on what Insurance companies will cover. If I deem a particular technique will improve my client, then I get to put them first and treat with their best interest in mind. With my work treating Crossfit and Powerlifting athletes, I have honed in on addressing fascia to improve mobility and as a go to prior to any motor control activities. A lot of athletes who participate in high force activities, utilize yoga as an adjunct to their regular training to promote mobility and flexibility. After this realization, I partnered with a 200-hr. Experienced Registered Yoga Teacher, Leana Marshall, to bring Yoga & Release to the community. This class emphasizes myofascial release techniques that are then exaggerated by Yoga positioning throughout the class.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road. I still juggle a full-time job while pursuing my entrepreneurial endeavors. Time is not always on my side but some of the long days have been worth it. My full-time responsibilities can limit my availability as well. Getting started was a challenge because I had to look at several resources to make sure I was operating up to code for Atlanta. There are about 6 different websites to perform actions on just to make sure you can operate. I’ve also had to do a lot of education for both businesses to ensure clients and students understand what is being offered. Both are non-conventional so building an audience wasn’t immediate.

Advice: Always plan. Scan your area for what you plan to offer and be open to moving your business to an untapped or less tapped market. Be thorough in your preparation to start your business. Utilize your tribe. Most of us know amazing people who know other amazing people. It is efficient to start your networking through word of mouth if you are breaking into an already established business area. Always be open to feedback as it is what helps you figure out how to stand apart.

Please tell us about Made4Movement PT and Yoga & Release.

Made4Movement is known for low visits and education clients on activities to perform at home as well as providing necessary manual treatment. We are also known for being convenient!

Yoga & Release is a new concept witin the yoga community. My partner and I have created an educational as well as physical class to promote movement efficiency and mobility. This class has reached students that range from new/experienced yogis, weekend warriors, medical professionals, power/Olympic lifters and those facing autoimmune diseases.

Were there people and/or experiences you had in your childhood that you feel laid the foundation for your success?
Absolutely! My mother was a disabled military veteran who raised my brother and I on her own. Regardless of her battles, she let me know that I could do anything. As long as it made me happy, she was always going to tell me to go for it! I watched her do amazing things with the cards stacked against her. She needed help at times, but she never stopped being a great mother. She is where I get my courage from.
