Today we’d like to introduce you to Hollery Morris.
Hi Hollery, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started photographing people when I got out of the military. At first, if was just for fun, but then others began to tell me that I had a gift. So I began to invest in myself. I took a few classes and a few one-on-one mentorships with some of the best photographers in the nation. A few of those I still talk to and get advice from today. I am forever learning and trying to better myself. Once I truly began to practice my craft more, I realized I loved to photograph women, especially pregnant and businesswomen. Then I decided to take it a step further and specialize in underwater and maternity photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I am blessed to say that it has been a smooth road. Being a veteran myself and military wife, we constantly move and I have to start over. But the blessing in that is that I have clientele in many places and it has caused me to learn how to adjust on an instant. I am located in Destin, FL and I also have clients in Birmingham, AL and Atlanta, GA.
I will say that when you own a full-time business, you are learning something new every day. But I’m thankful that I have friends in my industry that I can reach out to and get guidance when I have a question. I have learned that over the years that my gift comes from the Lord and I have to treasure and honor it because He could have given this to anyone, but he chose me and for that I am forever thankful.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a portrait photographer that loves to capture beauty of women. I specialize in Maternity and Underwater photography. Those two genres are very close to my heart. As a woman that has dealt with countless reproductive surgeries and procedures to try and become pregnant. I want the women who I photograph to feel and have the best experience. My photo sessions are customized for each of my clients so that no one session has the same look. I want them to feel special and look beautiful because I know that being pregnant is such an important moment in their life. They are literally experiencing a miracle. So I want to help them document this time in their life through art. If you want to take it a step further and do something different, we can capture it underwater.
Underwater photography is my other baby. I learned how to swim two weeks before my underwater workshop. When I tell people I shoot underwater, they always ask and say, “ How do people stay underwater for so long and is it hard?” I assure them that it isn’t as hard as they think. I let them know that before their actual photo session, I provide a practice session a few weeks before their photoshoot so they can know what to expect and be confident at their upcoming session. I guide them through the posing, facial expressions, and breathing techniques. You will be underwater no long than 5-10 seconds. If you don’t feel as comfortable in six (6) feet of water, I can capture you in four (4)feet also. Safety is a big thing, so to ensure confidence, I am an expert on what I do, I am underwater trained, CPR certified, and there will be a lifeguard there. I am confident in my clients and I always want them to feel beautiful, but safe. While doing it. But I always say, if my maternity clients can do it, you can too.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
Photography is very important to me because I get to create a memories for people. You may be having a bad day years from now or missing someone and you can look at their photo and receive comfort. That’s why it is so important to print out your images in this digital world and I provide printing services just for that reason. I know how it feels.
