Meet Michelle Norris and Forrest Aguar of Tropico Photo in Inman Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Norris and Forrest Aguar.

Michelle and Forrest, please share your story with us.
Forrest and I met in college at the University of Georgia in the photography program. We were a little competitive early on and eventually that grew into sharing ideas and eventually collaborating. We moved to Atlanta a couple of years later and discovered the commercial photography industry. After a lot of experimenting and figuring out how our fine art aesthetic could translate into editorial, travel and advertising, we launched Tropico Photo. Since then, we’ve been having the best time! We love what we do and making work together.

Has it been a smooth road?
There have definitely been struggles! Freelance is inherently difficult to break into and there were a lot of times when we each wondered if a career in photography could actually happen for us. Thanks to assisting early on, we were able to stay afloat long enough to see our dream come to fruition. Working together as a couple is also tricky to navigate, but we wouldn’t have it any other way.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tropico Photo – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We refer to ourselves as a creative team because we do a lot more than just photography. Each of us has skills in art direction, styling, lighting, production, and retouching. That means that we can function as a full-service studio when needed. We mainly specialize in editorial and advertising. Our specific aesthetic with an emphasis on color story and tight compositions helps our imagery to stand out.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love that Atlanta has great food, the beltline and warm weather. The quality of life is really high for the cost of living. We also appreciate all the green space and being near our friends and family. All of the new high-rise luxury apartments and traffic are our least favorite parts.
