Today we’d like to introduce you to Krystal Bey.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story begins in a bubble-gum pink two-story home in Richmond, Virginia. Though I wasn’t born there, my love for the arts was. It was in this home that I discovered painting, singing, poetry, jazz, and the early 2000s smash hit “That’s So Raven”, which would spark my love for acting.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a storyteller and a peacemaker, and that’s what I continue to bring to my work today. Like many other young professionals, my story has had its twists and turns, but training and on-the-ground experience have always been at the forefront of everything I’ve done. As a young actress and model in Richmond, VA, that’s all I could do since big opportunities for exposure were few and far between. So from around 8-18, I studied and performed. I attended Barbizon modeling school where I learned industry basics, and took several acting classes throughout Richmond City and in Charlotte, North Carolina. Eventually, I advanced to be seen by New York industry professionals and attended a life-changing summer acting intensive at the New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts. I enrolled as an acting major at Columbia College Chicago a few years later. These experiences were incredibly legitimizing for me as an actress and gave me the confidence boost I needed to know that not only could I survive in this industry but that my stories, skills, and experiences were wanted and valued.
With a few on-set experiences and lots of training under my belt, I moved out to California where my career began to flourish. Now that I’m in Atlanta, I am as invigorated as ever to not only remain working in my craft as an actress but to elevate and scale, shining a light on my other artistic talents as well. I am excited that even with as much experience as I’ve gained, my story is truly just beginning.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have been incredibly blessed. Although I’ve had my ups and downs along with way, whether those be financially or running into some ill-intentioned persons behind the scenes, I can say with sincerity that my road in this industry has been smooth so far. There has been nothing that has made me question my love for my craft. Gad has always kept me and favored me. So for that, I am grateful.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist through and through. Whether that be singing, dancing, painting, writing, acting, photography, cooking, or any other imaginative endeavor, you name it and I do it. At present, I am most known as a YouTuber, commercial actress, and model, and have been seen in many wonderful projects from hair product campaigns to music videos. Of my recent achievements, I am probably most proud to have been a part of the Teyana Taylor x Darling Hair campaign and Footlocker’s 2023 “The Heart Of Sneakers” holiday campaign.
What sets me apart from others is humble that I’m the only one of me in existence. Graciously, God has endowed me with a unique set of qualities that no one else has, and I am committed to stewarding them well.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Some of the most important lessons that I learned due to the COVID-19 crisis are to 1) prioritize family, 2) cultivate a rhythm of rest, and 3) optimize opportunities with optimism. The lockdown, in my opinion, served as a perfect pause to our daily routines. Although there was a lot of uncertainty and tragedy surrounding us, we truly did have the space to rest, become refocused on what’s most important, and create independent opportunities for growth, development, and exposure. For instance, I was able to write for my blog, restart my YouTube Channel, and create new artwork during this time when I would’ve been too distracted to do so under normal circumstances. Instead of being met with the daily demands of hustle culture, I was able to fall in love with moving at a slower pace and exploring my talents.
