Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashleigh Chalice.
Hi Ashleigh, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My career journey began in the realm of fashion as a stylist, where my background allowed me to secure a coveted role as the wardrobe manager for the renowned Atlanta icon, Ciara. The two-year stint in this role was not only professionally enriching but also served as a pivotal experience that fueled my curiosity about the diverse possibilities life had to offer.
Following Ciara’s hiatus from touring to start her family, my network once again played a crucial role, leading me to a fulfilling position as the Wardrobe Manager for the talented artist Ariana Grande. This role lasted over a year, providing me with invaluable insights and contributing to my growth in the industry.
In 2018, a profound personal loss shifted the trajectory of my career. The passing of my mother, a self-taught interior designer, compelled me to explore the world of design as a way to honor her legacy. Drawing from the wealth of knowledge she shared with me about utilizing textures, light, and color to harmonize spaces, I embarked on a new path in interior design.
My first significant project involved a hometown friend Tyrod Taylor who plays in the NFL. When he entrusted me with the challenge of designing his expansive 15,000 square foot home, I embraced the opportunity wholeheartedly. This project marked a turning point, pushing me into a career as an interior designer.
Through this experience, I discovered not only my knack for creating aesthetically pleasing spaces but also an innate ability to recognize the profound connection between the physical environment and human well-being. The feedback from those entering my client’s home was not just about its beauty but the shared sentiment that “it feels good in here.” I knew I had something special.
Simultaneously, my personal journey of self-discovery and healing influenced my approach to design. Lifestyle changes and a deeper exploration of spirituality became integral to my creative process, contributing to a holistic vision that transcended aesthetics. This transformative period birthed “The Chalice by AC.” Named after my middle name, Chalice, this design firm specializes in a wellness-based approach, crafting spaces that not only please the eye but also promote healing. Our focus is on the energy within spaces and incorporating therapeutic design elements that reconnect individuals with themselves.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey as a self-taught designer has been both magical and challenging. Real-time lessons have highlighted areas for improvement and growth. Navigating the design landscape without formal education presented challenges, prompting a constant commitment to knowledge and skill development. Establishing credibility in a competitive industry required showcasing my portfolio and communicating the authenticity of being self-taught. Financial considerations in starting a design firm emphasized the need for strategic planning. Despite these challenges, each obstacle serves as an opportunity for growth, refining skills, and enhancing the brand on an ongoing journey of learning and improvement.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in wellness-based interior design, where the focus is on creating spaces that contribute to the healing process and overall well-being. The home, in my philosophy, serves as a sanctuary for recharging in our fast-paced lives. My work is centered on the understanding that a well-designed interior can play a pivotal role in nurturing mental and emotional wellness, extending beyond mere aesthetics.
What sets me apart is the belief that interior design is more than visual appeal; it’s a vital element in the intricate tapestry of holistic wellness. In a world where time slips away rapidly, my approach emphasizes the importance of prioritizing well-being. The spaces I design act as retreats, offering tranquility and shelter from the chaos of the external world.
I take pride in curating environments that serve as personalized havens, utilizing colors, textures, and layouts as instruments in the symphony of well-being. The goal is not just to please the eyes but to foster a sense of rejuvenation and respite. Holistic wellness, for me, is an ongoing journey, and interior design acts as the guiding compass in this expedition. Every corner of the spaces I create whispers the importance of self-care, making each project a canvas where the art of wellness is thoughtfully painted with strokes of mindfulness.
