Exploring Life & Business with Chance Shannon of FamousHands

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chance Shannon.

Chance Shannon

Hi Chance, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey in this barber industry started back in 2013. After making tons of bad choices in my life, I was caught in a place which many of us are familiar with. Either keep doing the same thing and getting the same results or try stepping out of my comfort zone and make a complete change in my life. With my wife encouraging me to consider being a barber, which was just a hobby at the time. I took a chance on pursuing it. I’m thinking if it doesn’t work, then hell, at least I tried, right? I can work some odd jobs on the side to make it make sense. Once I stepped foot inside that shop, my whole mindset changed. I was blessed as a rookie barber to land in one of the best shops as well as on of the best situations a barber could ask for. I was surrounded by barber greatness. Every barber I worked with my first three years taught me everything I know about what it takes to stand out amongst my peers. What it takes to be not only a good barber but a great barber. Many barbers in the beginning aren’t as fortunate. I became a sponge and soaked up every bit of information they gave me. Applied it to everything I did, and it became a habit. I worked relentlessly and created a great work ethic, and that’s how I was able to take it to the next level.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like they say, nothing worth having comes easy. There’s so much you have to overcome as an entrepreneur that can make you consider just giving it all up and getting a regular old 9 to 5. In most cases, the first few years as a business owner, entrepreneur, or even a barber, you won’t gain much or any profit. If you have a family depending on you, bills hanging over your head, chances are you can’t afford to not bring in some sort of income. Days will be long, and nights will be even longer. But if you stick to the task at hand, you’ll definitely see that it was all worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of FamousHands. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
FamousHands is a brand that’s holds as an umbrella for several different businesses. Starting off as a brand that catered specifically to Men’s Hair Grooming. We’ve been able to not only elevate the services for our male clients but also take the FamousHands name and branch off into other ventures. Rather, it can be essential beard products for men or elegant soap for women. From apparel for men and women to holding classes for barbers online. The FamousHands Brand offers just about everything. While operating out of our FamousHands shop located in downtown Atlanta. I also provide services for celebrity clients in and out of town, such as Nelly, Kountry Wayne, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, Mike Bless, Desi Banks & a handful of other athletes, actors, and businessmen. Praying to God, and keeping my faith in His will, knowing he would bless me with all of these opportunities, is what I’m most proud of.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I truly believe that nothing comes out of staying in your comfort zone. In business, you have to take risks in order to grow and achieve any goals that you set. Rarely will the opportunities you seek fall in your lap. You have to go out and create opportunities and put yourself in position to receive even more opportunities. Taking a risk on not receiving a steady paycheck, some 401k waiting for me when it’s over, really paid off for me in the end. Of course, there were times when I thought I made the wrong decision. Staying prayed up and believing in who God put me here to be reassured me that I was on the right path every time I had doubt about taking a risk.
