Today we’d like to introduce you to Kolor.
Hi Kolor, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been singing since I was very young, starting out in choirs and getting my original recording experience with my father. He was an entertainer himself and has always encouraged me to continue to pursue music. As I did, I began to venture out into different styles, places, and spaces. Starting out as a rapper/singer in Miami was rough, but I chose to perfect my craft by going to school and also immersing myself into the culture and the business. Now, I’m in Atlanta, GA, getting paid and recognized for what I do. I’ve had the pleasure of being on a few small tours, performing at pride and so many other things that serve as a pillar in my foundational experience as an artist.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, I’ve been learning that I can’t do everything. Even when I have the capability, it doesn’t always serve me well if I don’t acquire assistance. Wearing all of the hats all of the time has proven to be very challenging. As it pertains to my musical pursuits, I have had my fair share of obstacles, from discrimination to representation. Finding balance between my work life and my music life is also a challenge as well. Sometimes, it can feel overstimulating to have everything due at one time.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a singer/ rapper and musician. I write and produce my own music, as well as play several instruments. Writing is my specialty, and I pride myself on my witty and insightful lyrical prowess. I’m usually known for making music that ignites the fire, gets the vibes going. I incorporate fashion, choreography, and my fun lyrical delivery to create a sincere since of originality.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
People like my partner Jesus ‘n’ Drag definitely come to mind.
They are always investing and supporting what I do. Friends like Zyana and Star are always keeping my head above the water. My grandmother is honestly my biggest inspiration. And someone who truly deserves some credit is my dad. He introduced me to the concept of music as a business and a profession. I grew up in studios with the same equipment and environments that I am operating in today.
