him and he shall direct your path smooth and straight,” Proverbs 2 vs. 5-7.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to becoming “Marvelous Marissa” has not been easy. I stumbled, fall, cried for hours, been spit on, rejected and told that I wasn’t good enough, qualified or pretty enough to accomplished my dreams. Many people throughout the years have discredited, bullied and made a complete joke out of me. I once thought that my dreams of being a “Television Host” were dead. I was told that I had a speech problem and I was teased for talking “proper” especially growing up in the urban city of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Throughout the difficulties and being degraded by my peers, some of my family members and even some of my teachers/professors, God kept his promise and he blessed me to be a television host for a local cable channel here in Atlanta, GA called, “WATC TV 57.” I am the Executive Producer/Host of my television show called, “Broken into Beautiful.” I was also an Atlanta Live Host that airs on WATC TV 57. Not to mention, I hosted a segment called the “Here’s What’s Happening” segment on 104.7 The Fish in 2022. Today, I am a TV Journalist for TVONE syndicated show, “Fatal Attraction.” I am also a contestant in the United International Elite Pageant. My appointed title is, “MS Peach Blossom Classic” and my platform is “From Brokenness to Marvelous.”
Throughout the many struggles and challenges I experienced, I give God the glory. He brought me a mighty long way and what people have said or done to me doesn’t matter because God has the final say so over my life, He fought every battle for me and he blessed me in the presence of my enemies. The enemy wanted me dead and he canceled every plot of the enemy. Throughout the struggles I experienced on my jobs, at school or even dealing with people. God was always there protecting me and guiding me along the way. When doors were literally slammed in my face, he always opened another door for me and he always blesses me with opportunities to go to the next level. I thank God for his grace and mercy and his hand that is over my life. I’m unstoppable because of him. Regardless of what people have said or done to me, God told me that I am Marvelous and Victorious in his eyes!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My name is Marvelous Marissa and I am a Media Personality, An Award Winning Host, Motivational Speaker, 2X Best Selling Author, Entrepreneur and Pageant Queen. I am known for being booked for hosting events, galas and ministering at Women’s Conferences and events held for the youth. I am most proud of my books and being able to share my testimony with others. So many young ladies across the world were inspired by my two books, “From Brokenness to Marvelous” and “From Brokenness to Marvelous Part 2 The Mask Has Been Removed.” I am honored that my story of redemption and how I got to where I am today despite the odds that were stacked up against me has helped others healed and be delivered from their trauma. What sets me a part from others is that I am okay with being transparent with others. I am okay with my past mistakes, trauma and the doors that were once shut in my face. Those experiences helped me to persevere, to put my faith in God and it build character throughout the years and I am okay to share that with people.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
My favorite childhood memory is when I was in junior high at Thomas A. Edison Middle School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In the seventh and eighth grade, I was heavily involved in extra curriculum activities. One of my favorite organizations was Forensics. My seventh grade English Teacher, Ms. Regina Stingley, convinced my parents for me to be involved in this organization. Forensics is a public speaking competition for students in the Milwaukee Public Schools System. I stayed after school many nights practicing and preparing for the competition. My category was poetry. I recited monologues from my favorite poets, Dr. Maya Angelou and Jewel Diamond Taylor. To my surprise, in the seventh grade, I won second place in the school district and in the eighth grade I won first place. This big accomplishment led me to reciting the morning and afternoon announcements in school and winning national essay competitions. Those programs and activities helped prepare me for the work I am doing today.
