Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeff Shaw
Jeff, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to Atlanta in 2014 and went looking for Celtic rock bands to join (I was in three when I lived in Boston). Upon discovering Atlanta didn’t HAVE any Celtic rock bands, I knew what I needed to do! I gathered some of the area’s finest musicians and started The Muckers. With a mix of originals, traditional songs and unusual covers, we’ve established ourselves as a force to be reckoned with and have already made a national and international impact on the Celtic rock scene.
In our nearly 10 years we’ve released four full-length albums and gone on countless tours, including an Alaska trip culminating in our appearance at Trapper Creek Bluegrass Festival, multiple voyages to Pennsylvania for the huge MusikFest, a great spot on the lineup at Shamrock Fest in Washington, D.C. and just this year our first-ever appearance at Bonnaroo.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Two years ago we lost our drummer, Steve Lingo, to cancer. He was very much the soul of the band and it took a while to move forward. On our most recent album we included a cover – “True Believers” by Bouncing Souls – which was his go-to karaoke song as a tribute to him.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
We’re truly a unique type of band for Atlanta, blending Celtic songs and various types of folk with a punk rock sensibility. I’m proud that we’ve never needed to compromise on that vision for the band – we continue to stand by our style and it’s done wonders for us. The invitation to Bonnaroo this year really speaks to how far we’ve come as a unique voice in a city so well known for its art and music scene.
How do you think about luck?
I don’t think luck has been a huge factor. By no means are we international superstars, but what we do have is through hard work and dedication to our craft. Luck is the residue of hard work – it doesn’t just fall out of the sky and hit you.
