Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Dunn.
Mike, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been an artist all of my life, whether it was drawing, painting, sculpture, writing, etc. I didn’t pick up photography until a few years ago, around 2008. I started taking it seriously around 2010, and from there, it’s been a goal to be better than I was yesterday.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I think any artist would agree that the road is usually bumpy, with all types of curves, peaks, and valleys. The biggest struggle I have faced is being too critical of my own work. I’m very hard on myself. I’m a perfectionist, so I’m never really happy with my work. I always feel as though it can be better.
Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I don’t believe in “luck.” I believe in being prepared and ready for anything. If you are ready for anything, you can handle everything.
Is there a quality or characteristic that has played an outsized role in your success?
Patience and persistence. Never give up. Ever.
What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
I love everything except the traffic. This is home. Forever I love Atlanta. I hate the traffic.
