Life & Work with Anisa Nyell Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anisa Nyell Johnson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I actually started out as a dancer. I went to (FLC) Franklin Learning Center Highschool of Performing Arts & I majored in dance & technology. I was very committed to dance at the time. I never thought of acting or any other discipline at that time even though we had to experience/ explore other facets of the arts throughout my highschool journey! Dance was my life! Once I got to college I decided to diversify outside of the arts yet still not giving up dance as a whole! I went to (CCP) Community College of Philadelphia & Transferred into Temple University majoring in Psychology w/ a minor in dance & African American studies. In the midst of me pursuing something outside of entertainment I was always drawn back! While shooting a movie in the ATL called “Beat Street Resurrection” (dance movie) I blew my knees out which changed my vision & the path I believed I was on. This is when I decided to focus just on acting, and that is when my life changed.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of my biggest challenges is being always present in the lives of my family members (husband and sons) extracurricular and academic endeavors while maintaining my professional acting career. My sons are heavily involved in both highschool and collegiate sports organizations as well as being avid scholastic high achievers. It is also important for me to be present for my Bae!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Thanks to my agency, People Store, I have secured the following acting opportunities:
Television & Film: Spider-Man No Way Home (Marvel), The Family Plan (AppleTV), The Resident (Fox), Black Lightning on (CW), Echoes (Netflix), Reasonable Doubt (Season 2; Hulu). I currently play the role of Detective Shaker on NBC’s Found. You can binge all 13 episodes of Season 1 on Peacock.
Found Season 2 will start airing October 3rd Thursday night after Law and Order SVU at 10pm EST & next day Streaming on Peacock.
Commercials: Gilead; CapitalOne ;Dicks, and Domino’s to name a few.
In addition to my acting experience, I also serve as a producer & entertainment consultant in both film and TV.

I am most proud of how my heart’s desires have lined up with my service purpose: being a wife of 25 years; a mom of 3 amazing young men. I am blessed to have the ability to navigate it all!

It is through my life experience that I learned what my service purpose is! “Service Purpose” is when you use your gifts and talents in ways that positively impact the lives of those you encounter in your daily life. By God’s grace my background as a mental health professional is a beautiful asset. I’m blessed to have opportunities to impact the lives of others that come across my path and it’s so cool to bless others on set!

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I absolutely love living in Georgia. I love how diverse & eclectic it is from food to music; but most importantly the plethora of shoot locations available for film and television are significant. There are so many backdrops to choose from: metropolitan cities, beaches, suburbs, and country landscapes that can be displayed. Georgia is a cool place to work, live and raise a family.

The one thing that I dislike over anything is the traffic! If we can find some way to better navigate traffic here, oh that would be such a blessing.
