Jimmy’s journey unfolds with influences enriched during his early years growing up in Puerto Rico, absorbing a diverse fusion of Spanish and Caribbean flavors. Transitioning to Miami for culinary education at Johnson and Wales University, Jimmy broadened his proficiency and leadership in esteemed 5-star Luxury Hotels, High-End Fine Dining, and acclaimed National Prime Steakhouses.

Realizing a long-held dream, Jimmy opened his first restaurant, Jimmy’z Kitchen, in chic South Beach in 2007. This marked the onset of expansion, with four additional locations in Miami and Atlanta. We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being an entrepreneur is never easy. In the past as a restaurant business owner, I’ve had to wear many hats and juggle countless responsibilities on a daily basis. One of my first major challenges was raising the capital to open my first restaurant. Once that hurdle was overcome, new challenges emerged as I worked to scale that initial location into four additional ones, each bringing its own set of complexities. and challenges.

We’ve been impressed with Jimmy Carey Commercial Real Estate Team, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My work is rooted in a passion for helping businesses, particularly in the Restaurant and Food & Beverage Commercial Real Estate sectors, find their footing and flourish in Atlanta’s competitive market. With over 30 years of experience in the Food & Beverage Industry, paired with my expertise as a Commercial Real Estate Agent, I’ve carved out a unique niche that sets me apart. I specialize in Restaurant Brokerage , Landlord Representation and Tenant Representation, offering my clients not just Commercial Real Estate services but invaluable insights gained from firsthand experience as a Restaurateur and entrepreneur.

What truly sets me apart is my ability to connect with my clients on multiple levels—I understand the challenges they face because I’ve been in their shoes. Having successfully launched and scaled my own Restaurant brand across multiple locations and markets, I bring a level of expertise and strategic foresight that’s rare in the industry. Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
The Covid-19 crisis taught me the value of patience on an entirely new level. In such an unpredictable time, I learned how to adapt to changing circumstances, understanding that not everything is within my control. Professionally, it reinforced the importance of staying flexible and resilient.

Whether it was finding innovative ways to support clients or pivoting strategies to align with a rapidly evolving market, the crisis highlighted the need for both patience and creative problem-solving. It also deepened my appreciation for relationships—both personal and professional—and the strength we find in collaboration during challenging times.
