Meet Hannah Church

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Church.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a full-time actress and playwright in the Atlanta area. In 2012 I graduated with a BFA in Performing Arts and I have been performing and writing ever since. I’ve worked around the U.S. and also internationally in ten different countries before moving to Atlanta. Once I got here I was a playwrighting apprentice for Horizon Theatre in Little Five Points and I have performed at many theatres in Atlanta including the Alliance Theatre, Aurora Theatre, Horizon Theatre, Arìs Theatre, Working Title Playwrights, and OnStage Atlanta.

Over the next year, I’ll be working with the Alliance, Arìs, Aurora, and Theatre Emory and a musical I co-wrote with my dear friend Julia Appleton titled The Yellow Wallpaper will continue to be workshopped in Ontario, Canada. It last premiered at the Atlanta Musical Theatre Festival in 2016! I am also a teaching artist for The Alliance Theatre’s education department. It’s incredibly rewarding going into the schools of Atlanta and encouraging our young ones to use their voices, bodies, and imaginations to express themselves.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve never allowed myself to give up. Sure there are hard days when you don’t get the part or have to work a separate part-time job for awhile to give me the freedom to write but it’s definitely been an adventure.

I wasn’t sure if I would end up in Chicago because it was near where I went to school but my heart chose Atlanta and I’ve always come back to it. In the beginning, it was a bit difficult to break into the system here, but with hard work and patience, I’m finally starting to reap the benefits.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
Self-employed actress.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My life goal is to travel to every country in the world. I’m currently at 38 countries and working through them one by one. It’s very important to me to experience all these different cultures, languages, cuisines, and have these life experiences in each place. I believe it helps me become a better writer, actress, teacher, and an all-around better human being.

Everyone and every place has beauty. The only thing keeping people from seeing that is fear of the unknown. When you push yourself past that fear, you can truly live happily.
