Life & Work with Slone Williams of Metro Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Slone Williams

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Slone x Mattie was born from a dream my mother and I envisioned in 2019—a vision deeply rooted in our shared love for fashion. Ever since I was a little girl, I found joy in shopping from my mother’s closet, admiring her impeccable style and the way she effortlessly put outfits together. It was her idea for us to create our own brand, a reflection of our passion for fashion and the connection we share.

In 2020, amidst the uncertainties of the pandemic, we decided to turn our dream into reality. We immersed ourselves in brand-building, attending boutique training programs such as Nichole Lynel’s Bling Blueprint, and many others. We committed to investing in ourselves—prioritizing health, skincare, and confidence—so that when the time came for photoshoots and branding, we’d be fully prepared. I also honed my marketing and social media skills through courses by High Seasons Co. and The Social Lab by Lorrel Lane, equipping us with the tools to bring Slone x Mattie to life.

After years of preparation, we finally hit the launch button in April 2024. But our journey truly began long before that. Our first-ever brand photoshoot took place in Dubai at Jumeirah Zabeel Saray (2021)—an unforgettable experience. We traveled with Journey’s By Jamm, joining a group and hauling six to eight suitcases filled with everything we needed. We found an incredible makeup artist through social media, and though the shoot was a whirlwind of nerves and excitement, it marked the first step in truly pursuing our dream. Since then, every trip we’ve taken has doubled as a new photoshoot location, each destination adding another chapter to our brand’s story.

One of our most cherished shoots took place in Venice, Italy, inside a breathtaking penthouse along the canal. From that experience, we released the Intertwined Collection—an Italian-inspired line featuring twisted and roped details reminiscent of Italy’s romantic landscapes. To complement the collection, we held another photoshoot at Berry College in Rome, Georgia, a location whose stunning architecture mirrors the elegance of Europe. From our early dreams to where we stand today, the journey of Slone x Mattie has been one of growth, discovery, and resilience. As we approach our one-year anniversary in April 2025, we reflect on the five years of dedication it took to build this brand. This is more than just a fashion venture—it’s a testament to generational wealth, creativity, and the unbreakable bond between mother and daughter.

At its core, Slone x Mattie is about love, connection, and style. Our mission is simple: to empower women of all ages to express themselves through fashion. We believe that fashion is more than just clothing—it’s a form of storytelling, a bridge between generations, and a way to embrace confidence unapologetically.

Our Brand Promise:
Timeless Elegance & Modern Flair
Quality Craftsmanship & Inclusivity
Sustainable Practices
Slone x Mattie is bold, chic, and timeless—just like the women who wear it. And as we continue to evolve, we remain committed to delivering innovative, high-quality designs that celebrate the essence of style and connection.

This is only the beginning.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Learning a new industry is far from a walk in the park. There have been countless times when I thought I had everything perfectly set up—automations in place, an engaged email list, scheduled social media content with all the right hashtags, seamless integrations for our website, a fully functional pixel for retargeting ads—but as soon as we launched, everything seemed to fall apart. The automations didn’t trigger, newsletters landed in spam, Facebook ads weren’t reaching our website visitors, and to top it off, every time we found a stunning fashion piece, Nichole Lynel or Zara would release something nearly identical just days before or after. It made me question if we even had a place in this industry.

Another major challenge has been creating content and promoting the brand myself on my personal pages. I have a busy career that finances my dream, so after my 9-to-5, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., I’m working on Slone x Mattie. On top of that, I have a part-time job, and I take on freelance (digital media) projects to help fund my living expenses, which makes it incredibly difficult to create and push out content consistently. My mother too– juggles a demanding career while caring for our family. Social media is key to building brand awareness, but when you’re juggling so much, finding the time to film reels, edit videos, and post regularly becomes a struggle in itself.

But we refuse to give up. I’m still learning every day—I just started my Grow with Google courses this week. The biggest challenge is reaching our audience, but I’m committed to mastering the marketing and branding side of our business. Meanwhile, my mother, our fashion buyer, is deeply immersed in Vogue, Zara, InStyle, fashion blogs, and trend reports. She lives and breathes fashion, ensuring our brand’s identity remains strong.

While these challenges test us, we remain focused and determined. My mother is the heart of Slone x Mattie—on the tough days, she lifts me up, just as I do for her. She constantly reminds me of why we started: to build something meaningful, to create a legacy, and to establish generational wealth for our family. And that’s exactly what we’re going to do.

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Fashion is ever-evolving, and staying ahead of trends is essential to success. Over the next 5–10 years, I envision Slone x Mattie growing from an e-commerce brand into brick-and-mortar locations. Our expansion plans include launching men’s and children’s clothing lines, as well as introducing our beauty product line later this year.

We’re not just building a fashion brand—we’re creating a full-scale fashion empire with a dedicated team to support our vision. A key focus this year is securing financial support through grants rather than loans, while also leveraging networks, directories, and organizations that promote fashion brands and Black-owned businesses.

Beyond fashion, we see ourselves stepping into new creative spaces. As passionate storytellers, we aim to pitch TV and book concepts to production companies and publishers. In the next decade, Slone x Mattie will not only be a thriving fashion house but also a brand that inspires, innovates, and expands across multiple industries.
