Daily Inspiration: Meet the Yes Dear

Today we’d like to introduce you to the Yes Dear

Hi Yes Dear, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
We started in a pretty modern way- we pretty much all met online.
We all had various online postings about wanting to play with other local musicians and reached out to each other. We met up one day in the summer of 2023, and I think Alex bought a bass the day of as l was listed as a drummer at the time. We wrote our first single “boring” together within a few practices, and played a pretty terrible first show, but I like to think we’ve gotten a bit better since then.

We all grew up with kind of different musical backgrounds, so we have shaped our sound over time to what it is today. Now we are finishing up our first 5 song EP that we are going to release later this year.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I don’t think it’s common for a band to ever have a completely smooth story, but we have had trials and errors. We record everything we put out on our own, so we have definitely had to deal with thinking we are done with a recording and something going wrong only to have to re-record something even simple, which could take weeks to fix after working on it for a long time. Having the freedom and option to record on our own is definitely a privilege, but we are for sure learning more and more as we go.

I also think like a lot of other musicians we deal with imposter syndrome a lot and have to remind ourselves to take risks and put ourselves out there.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Evelyn Sanders, our guitarist is an electrical engineer and graduated from
KSU. She is originally from Indiana.

Alex Decker, our bassist is a territory manager focused on AI and cloud infrastructure at Google. She is originally from Austin, Texas.

Sierra Leines, our guitarist and vocalist, works in the clothing and styling field and specializes in vintage and upcycled clothing.

Nik Howlett, our main drummer, works at Microsoft as an AI engineer and spends most time in his own musical sitar project called “Shock Tea”. You should check them out too 🙂

I think in regards to our work background, we all kind of have the mindset to put our all into our music and not half ass things. We all work pretty hard individually on our own weak spots to improve as a group overall. I think we have a good balance or taking inspiration from those we look up to while maintaining an original sound.

We pretty much spend all non working hours on our musical project, lol

What matters most to you?
I think what matters most to us is creating music that we are proud of, and that we are excited to share with the world. Being apart of a community is really important and special, especially in times like today. The Atlanta music scene is such a talented, diverse and inspiring community that we are really happy to be apart of.
