Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonda B..
Hi Vonda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Music has always been the center of my life! Before I began writing at age 11, I remember watching my aunts and uncles sing together as a gospel choir in my grandmother’s living room. Shortly after that, I joined orchestra in middle school and I learned to play the viola. I also played the cello, and ultimately moved on to the violin. After graduating from high school, I decided to study music production in college and learned how to engineer as well. I also learned how to play piano as well! All of this helped me to release my debut EP, “Friends in Unusual Places” during my senior year of college!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. It’s tough to find an artist who is seriously and willing to work with you on a project that you’re passionate about. Also, you have to work a 9-5 to make ends meet, which takes time away from the creative process. And, as a songwriter, you want to write something, but you just can’t seem to find the words to describe how you feel! So yes, there are many struggles, but you ultimately find ways to overcome them.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an R&B songwriter, producer and engineer based in Memphis, Tennessee. I specialize in songwriting specifically, but I am also a Certified Avid User for ProTools, which is excellent for mixing and mastering music! I am most proud of the music I’ve released and the music I plan to release in the near future. Not only am I a creative, but I also help other artists/musicians with their marketing, including website design + management, social media marketing and more!
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I see the music industry shifting towards being fully digital within the next 5-10 years. With the current wave of AI technology and the use of social media platforms for artists today, I believe that there will be more improvements and opportunities for creatives to excel. For instance, record labels won’t have to go out and look for new talent; they can just go on Instagram or TikTok to find their new artist! This could make it a lot easier for both parties to make it in the music industry.
