Meet Don Denny of Watkinsville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Don Denny.

Hi Don, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved history and family ancestry. I’m originally from Dadeville, Alabama where my maternal and paternal ancestors created their journeys. I learned their stories and saw where they walked. Many years ago, my cousin Kami Crouch Merritt gave me a copy of journals written by my maternal great-grandmother Anne Daniel Herren. These journals were written during the years 1882 through 1918, and they brought to life the culture, lifestyles, relationships, faith and hopes of her era. These are rich stories worth sharing. So, I’m sharing some of these remarkable stories in a new book titled From Eufaula to Nashville. This book (volume one) focuses on the journals written from 1882 to 1889 when my great-grandmother was a teenager and young adult. From Eufaula to Nashville will be available from Amazon this summer 2025. I went to college at Truett-McConnell in Cleveland, GA and Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville. Today, I lead United Supply International, dba Utilities Supply, Inc. in Winder, Georgia. I like playing golf, attending college football games, visiting historic sites, and spending time with family. My wife Kelly and I have three adult children.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My great-grandmother’s journals cover the years 1882 through 1918, so l realized the need for focus. The book From Eufaula to Nashville opens the teen and early adulthood years of Anne Daniel from 1882-1889. Hopefully there will be future volumes. Through this process, I decided to save other family lineage stories for another time. My geneology excitement spills over at times, but the life stories of Anne Daniel Herren speak for themselves and she deserves the attention now. During the past eighteen months, I learned to navigate a new network of requirements and personalities in the publishing field. I felt so compelled to share my great-grandmother’s stories that every seeming-obstacle helpe push me forward. There are many people to thank. I can hardly wait to reveal more stories.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Author of: From Eufaula to Nashville…. Journals of Anne Daniel Herren 1882-1889 Vol. One,
In addition, many hours spent researching from the early 1600’s our family living at Warner Hall Virginia, family tree of 2,000 years, family military history that includes George Washington, two great grandfather from the civil war whose unit fought at Gettysburg and great uncle, three star army general that liberated many cities in France 1945.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My mother’s older sister, Mary Ann Corprew Crouch, made sure I learned the family history! Throughout the years, Aunt Mary Ann sent letters and photos to me, told stories of interesting relatives and escapades, and shared our family geneology dating to the early 1600’s. She was willing to travel and tour any historic location connected to our family history. Aunt Mary Ann’s oldest daughter Kami Crouch Merritt took our family geneology to the next level after she read the handwritten journals of Anne Daniel Herren, our great-grandmother. Kami actually typed the journals for distribution to our family. Kami’s project was 300 pages with journal entries
beginning June 1, 1882 through December 31, 1918. The journals and stories of Anne Daniel Herren were kept because of my Aunt Mary Ann Corprew Crouch and my first cousin Kami Crouch Merritt. Their work and inspiration changed my life.
