Today we’d like to introduce you to Alec Magee.
Alec, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Growing up I’ve always had a passion for entertainment. Watching all the Disney movies of my era and knowing all the songs; I would perform them for my family every chance I could get. When I was in High School I had the opportunity to be part of the Show Choir at Bogalusa High and that gave me a deeper appreciation for performance. Later on, I continued my education at Grambling State University where I majored in journalism and minored in Drama and Theater. After developing my stage performance skills. I then later moved to Atlanta GA. Where I became member of AMT (Atlanta Models and Talent) agency and received my first speaking role on the AMC Hit Show “Halt And Catch Fire” where I played a Dallas deputy. From there I’ve landed several speaking roles including commercials for Papa Johns, Heluva Good Cheese, Turner Broadcasting Wellness and Fitness, Tyler Perry’s “The Have and the Have not” show, Capital One, Georgia Lottery, Ocean Beach Resort in Myrtle Beach, Belk and Publix. Also featured in magazines like: Jet, Upscale, Essence and Ebony.
Has it been a smooth road?
Absolutely not. Like in anything in life in order to be successful you have to put on the hours. I’ve dealt with rejection but I also know that’s a part of life. Rejection just lets me know that I need to work harder. There’s someone out there who done it better than me.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I plan on my industry in the near future impacting the world yet again in a major way; with the new technologies, equipment, camera lenses and the quality of special effects, also the new generation of actors learning The Ivana Chubbuck technique of acting, along with the Old Meysner technique. And just all the new minds that the future produces. I have no doubt that myself along with others out there who are working everyday towards this demanding yet beautiful career we’ve chosen will rise up and Impact this world and industry in a major way.
What has been the primary challenge you’ve faced?
My biggest challenge over the years; have been beating myself up when I felt like I didn’t win. When I didn’t land the role. When I leave an audition and feel there were so many other ways I could have done it. Not to mention if I go months without work. But I’m starting to learn and realize that All is required is to NEVER GIVE UP and keep studying and working. “What is meant to be It will be on it’s own time”. So many actors, along with myself; want it all now and are impatience, thinking that failure now it’s how it’s going to always be, but in reality it’s not.
What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
To Never Give Up on a dream that you feel passion deep in your heart about. Work Harder, Always Pray, Be Ambitious and never stop practicing and learning new ways. On your downtime read anything that will inspire your career, stay up to date every second, learn characters, and learn about people around you on a daily basis, watch and learn because you never know what character you will be playing in the future, Or what role speaks to you. And last but not least, always stay positive and humble.
